Get fit for 2020

Hands up all of you who made it their New Year’s Resolution to get fit. And hands up all of you who are fairly convinced that by February they will have given up and returned to the couch. The key to succeeding with a fitness resolution is to choose an exercise class or routine that you really enjoy. We’ve tried and tested a few of the more exciting (in our opinions) options in London at the moment in the hope that one of them will inspire us to treat our bodies as temples for 2020! GOOD LUCK EVERYBODY.

Jo Goff Yoga 

Jo Goff is a qualified vinyasa flow yoga teacher and has taught yoga to a wide variety of people from absolute beginners to more experienced and those recovering from injuries, emotional trauma or pregnancy.

She offers clear alignment instructions with a calm and confident manner and and air of elegance and has been described as having ‘a very nourishing and supportive energy.’

Each student is encouraged to work at their own level yet challenge themselves both physically and mentally.

Jo is based in London and teaches at various studios and is available for private classes, small groups and corporates.


Barrecore is a boutique fitness studio where the expert teachers – who undergo a minimum of 200 hours of intensive barre training – guide you through our famous Barrecore Method, proven to sculpt your entire body in just a few weeks. Our clients see actual results in their physique in 3 to 4 weeks, and generally stay for years!

Barrecore was founded in London in 2011 by celebrity trainer Niki Rein. Since then, we have grown into UK’s largest boutique fitness provider, and one of the most well-known and loved fitness brands.

Today we have 13 beautiful studios across prime locations in the UK, including Chelsea, Mayfair, Notting Hill, Hampstead, Kensington, Moorgate, Islington, Chiswick, Wandsworth, Wimbledon, Manchester (Alderley Edge and Hale) and Bristol.


SoulCycle arrived in the UK last Summer. 63 bespoke bikes built for a unique workout in a candlelit room with a fabulous motivational instructor. No mobiles are allowed in the studio so this is 45 minutes when you’re completely uncontactable and fully focused on the task ahead. It’s super-intense – sweaty, demanding, fast – but it’s also enormously gratifying.

Power Plate

The vibrational waves sent through the body make the muscles contract faster which requires you to work harder while doing the same exercise you would do on the floor. This helps you to burn more calories in a shorter amount of time. Whole body vibration training also boosts circulation, boosting recovery. The vibrations force you to stabilise and balance, which improves core and pelvic floor strength.

This is an effective, time-efficient workout that you can do in your living room with the added benefit that the vibrations also help with typical mum problems such as lower back pain, core strength, energy levels and the strengthening of the pelvic floor. The app is a fantastic addition taking you through workouts step by step and offering 10 minute, 20 minute and 30 minute options.

TRX Suspension Training

They look daunting but the TRX straps you may have seen hanging in the gym are an incredible way of losing body fat and increasing muscle mass. The idea is fairly simple – you use two straps with your feed or hands to partially suspend your body and then use your own body weight as resistance.

The exercises require a combination of core, mobility, stability, strength, balance and coordination. The TRX straps can be incorporated into a gym routine, used on their own with a PT or we tried the class at Body Machine on Kensington High Street.

Sweat App with Kayla Itsines

SWEAT is a meal-planning and workout app created by Australian personal trainer Kayla Itsines. The personal training app features a number of elite personal trainers including Kayla Itsines and offers various work out options to suit your individual needs.

The easy to follow work outs can be done anywhere and by anyone. Kayla’s workouts come without the need for any fancy gym kit – all that is required is a basic yoga mat and 28 minutes of your time. Absolutely perfect for mums who don’t have childcare.

The Pilates Clinic, Wimbledon

The Pilates Clinic in Wimbledon is a state of the art Pilates studio. Lead instructor Lisa Lamberti has been teaching Pilates for over 18 years. Together with her amazing team of Pilates instructors, she invites you to come and experience their “strategic approach to better health”.

They offer a variety of reformer and mat Pilates classes and private sessions to suit all levels of fitness, from beginners to advanced Pilates.

The Pilates Clinic welcomes all types of clients and offer classes/sessions to suit all levels of rehabilitation or body conditioning.

Fit for a Princess 

The focus for all of us is to be in great shape by being fit, healthy, strong and having the confidence to be whoever you want to be and done in a friendly and fun environment. And that’s where Fit for a Princess come in as they can help you achieve those goals!

All classes are suitable for all levels, abilities, sizes and shapes and exercise options are given for everyone. If you’re new, they will encourage you to start with the easier options and if you’re more advanced, they will be pushing you out of your comfort zone!

If you are pregnant or have just had a baby, research shows that there are numerous benefits to exercising during and after pregnancy. It can help keep your body fit and healthy and there are positive effects to both mother and baby. So if you want to help make your pregnancy easier or want to get back into shape then Fit for a Princess offer either personal sessions or you can bring your baby to the regular classes and they will give you options that are suitable for you to do.

Fit for a Princess is based in Primrose Hill but also offers online boot camps which you can do in your own time at home.

Body by Simone

The Body by Simone method is graceful, beautiful and powerful, with underlying techniques that derive from dance.

The programmes use the clients’ own body weight and light resistance in the form of small dumbbells and resistance bands to develop long, lean muscle. The combination of high intensity dance cardio mixed with strength training has been extremely successful in rapidly changing the shape of many female bodies, resulting in a list of long-time, loyal followers.

You’d be in good company such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Emily Blunt, Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift swear by Simone De La Rue’s method and you may also recognise Simone from Revenge Body with Khloe Kardashian.


triyoga was founded by Jonathan Sattin with the intention of creating the highest quality centres for true wellbeing. Places that combine the three key elements of yoga, Pilates and treatments (with some updates such as Gyrotonic and Barre).

Each triyoga centre is a sanctuary away from the noise and bustle of London life; somewhere calm and tranquil, that can be a part of people’s everyday lives. They also hope to dispel the myths surrounding who can practise yoga, because it really is for everyone – hence, ‘everyone triyoga’.

triyoga thinks that everyone – regardless of age, size, gender, fitness, diet and lifestyle – can develop a practice that they enjoy and benefit from.

triyoga offers classes for expectant mums, babies, toddlers, teens and parents to reflect that. Their schedule covers pregnancy yoga, mummy + me, toddlers, kids aged 4 – 12 and teens.

Sweaty Betty

Sweaty Betty want to empower women through fitness and beyond and they are determined to get you sweaty. In all of their shops across the UK, they offer free in-store classes from yoga to HIIT.
