Guided Tour and Workshop at the Saatchi Gallery | Event

Christo und Jeanne-Claude L'Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped, Paris, 1961-2021

As part of the Saatchi’s Gallery Season of Sculpture, their co-headline Winter exhibition, Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Boundless will take a retrospective look at the career and achievements of artistic collaborators and life partners Christo and Jeanne-Claude.

Christo & Jeanne-Claude: Boundless introduces visitors to the couple’s seminal projects, ranging from their early collaborations to monumental masterpieces, among them Wrapped Coast in Australia (1968/69), Surrounded Islands (1983) in Miami/Florida, The Pont Neuf Wrapped in Paris (1985), The Umbrellas (1991), installed simultaneously in Japan and the USA, The Gates in Central Park, New York City (2005) and The Floating Piers at Lake Iseo in Italy (2016).
It also includes the perspective of The Mastaba project in Abu Dhabi. This exhibition is the last to ever be signed off by Christo before his death and is divided into ten thematic chapters.
The exhibition reveals a story of love and artistic collaboration between Christo and Jeanne-Claude. It celebrates their synergy and profound connection, contextualised alongside their artistic contemporaries, including Jean Dubuffet, Yves Klein, and Lucio Fontana.
Boundless unveils a vivid narrative of passionate determination, highlighting the couple’s refusal to be confined by traditional norms and how this distinctive approach, fuelled their creative vision and shaped their artistic journey.

You are invited to a Special Workshop and tour at the Saatchi Gallery

Kensington Mums and littles ones are welcome to joins guided tour and Christo Collage workshop. Much of the exhibition will host their drawings and plans for their large scale well known installations.

This workshop is inspired by Christo and Jeanne Claude’s meticulous planning process, we will ask participants to use collage, drawing and stitching to erase and remove places and figures from various imagery, “wrapping” the contents and considering how this changes the image. In the workshop we will be covering and hiding pictures of monuments, and portraits through college, drawing in stitching inspired by Christo and Jeanne Claudes wider practice.

The workshop will be run by The Saatchi Gallery experienced Art Educators and we have limited spaces available. These sessions are adaptable for all ages and abilities and each child must be accompanies by an adult.

Date: 17th November 2023

Time: 4pm-6pm

Tickets: Complimentary for all Kensington Mums subscribers (emails will be verified).

Embracing Outdoor Learning in the Heart of Chelsea

outdoor learning

Sponsored content

In the bustling heart of London, where the urban jungle thrives, parents often wonder how to provide their pre-prep age children with unique educational experiences that promote creativity, learning, skills for the future whilst establishing a deep connection to the outdoors. One innovative solution to this conundrum can be found in the leafy borough of Chelsea, where a small prep school and nursery provides unique access to outdoor learning provision from their youngest learners to their Year 6 leavers.

Cameron Vale School seamlessly combines a rigorous, personalised classroom education with the well-documented benefits of outdoor learning through their Forest School provision. Located in Chelsea and complemented by enchanting forest school lessons in Barnes, it offers a holistic learning experience like no other, providing children with a nurturing education, fostering creativity, enhancing maths and language skills, enriching vocabulary, and offering unmatched scientific opportunities. Where else can you light a fire and toast marshmallows in SW3?

Chelsea is renowned for its elegance and charm, but it’s not often associated with wild, untamed forests. However, nestled within this urban enclave is a school that recognises the importance of exposing children to nature from a young age. Cameron Vale in Chelsea effortlessly blends the lush greenery of its Forest School classes, echoed within the school with their calming colour palette and natural materials with top-tier education. Here are some of the exceptional benefits it offers:

Nature’s Classroom in the Classroom: Cameron Vale transforms its classrooms and learning spaces into interactive learning environments. Children are surrounded by natural materials, calming colours and soft music to enhance this oasis of learning. Rather than curated wall displays, the school features learning walls, reflective of the topics there are learning about that they build on throughout each term to support retention and deepen understanding. Learning activities are creative and kinesthetic as much as possible, to target all learners, providing a hands-on education that stimulates their curiosity and love for learning.

outdoor learning

Enhanced Creativity: Being in a forest setting encourages children to use their imagination, building fairy houses, creating art from natural materials, and inventing games inspired by their surroundings. This fosters creativity, problem-solving, and innovative thinking.

Maths and Science in Action: Mathematics and science come to life at Forest School. Whether it’s measuring the height of trees, observing animal behaviour, or studying plant life cycles, children engage in practical, real-world applications of these subjects.

Language and Vocabulary: The forest provides a rich tapestry of experiences, which enhances language development. Children describe the world around them, recount their adventures, and learn new words associated with flora and fauna, all while building a strong foundation in language.

Whilst Cameron Vale sets the stage for a unique educational experience with their small class sizes, amazingly supportive and local school community and a very proactive provision for all learners, the Forest School curriculum takes it a step further, making it truly extraordinary.

Working together, collaboratively, in a setting which is very different to the more traditional classroom, provides a completely different dynamic and perspective. Children who may be quiet in the classroom, come alive where there is space and nature, a new environment where they can share their unique perspective on the world. Spatial concepts in non-verbal reasoning become much easier to understand when you can physically manipulate real objects.

outdoor learning

Forest School is also home to a diverse natural environment, offering children unique scientific experiences. They get to explore, observe wildlife, and study ecosystems, providing a hands-on science education that extends beyond textbooks.

Integrating Forest School curriculum throughout the school instills a sense of adventure and ambition in children, teaching them to dream big and aim high in their educational pursuits.

Cameron Vale School, located in a beautiful townhouse in Chelsea, just off the King’s Road, provides an education like no other. A home from home for your child’s first steps on their educational journey. Their approach to personalized learning, small class sizes and the complete integration of the benefits of nature, creative thinking, hands-on learning, and unique opportunities in the heart of London. In a city where the urban landscape dominates, this forest school offer provides an invaluable connection to the natural world, a robust foundation in education, and the tools to prepare young minds for a future filled with limitless possibilities.

To find out more, register your interest to attend the next open day on 22 November or contact the school to organise a personal tour.

Japan House

Thank you to all the Kensington Mums. We wanted to extend our heartfelt gratitude for being a part of the Japan House event at Japan House London. Your presence, along with your little ones, added a special touch to the day, making it a beautiful blend of East and West, tradition and modernity.

Japan House London, is committed to showcasing the vibrant diversity of Japanese graphic arts, bridging the worlds of fine art, commercial illustration, and counterculture. We had the pleasure of hosting a group of Kensington Mums to explore Japan’s House WAVE exhibition, and we were thrilled to organise this child-friendly tour followed by a badge-making workshop for children and parents alike.

During the badge-making workshop, we saw the creativity of both children and parents as they chose from ready-made badge designs based on fragments of the 60 works featured in the exhibition. We were equally delighted to see many of you designing your own original badges, adding a personal touch to the experience.

If you enjoyed the tour and exhibition, we kindly request you to consider sharing your thoughts with others. Your feedback is invaluable to us. We would greatly appreciate it if you could take a moment to leave a review of your experience on our Google account here.

Your reviews help us continue to improve and provide meaningful experiences for our visitors. Thank you for your support, and we hope to welcome you back to more enriching experiences in the future.

High Performance Culture

‘If we all did the things we are really capable of doing, we would literally astound ourselves.’ – Thomas Edison

I open my ‘Dream Big’ student assembly with Edison’s quotation and have always found it important to emphasise to students that they have so much potential and achieve so much with the right attitude and approach to learning. It is also my job as the head of Eaton Square Senior School & Sixth Form to ensure that we are providing our young people with knowledge, skills and experience rich curriculum to thrive and reach their highest potential.

I have recently become addicted to a podcast called High Performance: Lessons from the Best on Becoming Your Best which focuses on high performers, their journey to success, and what advice they can provide others to achieve. Inspired by each of the podcasts, I questioned just how much our curriculum empowers agency in our young people at Eaton Square Senior School & Sixth Form. One of the standard questions asked of the interviewee is what advice they would give their teenage self if they could go back in time. This made me think about how epiphanies can happen at a young age and one does not need to persevere for years and years before developing the tools to succeed, gain confidence and unlock personal potential.

What can we as educators learn from our leading entrepreneurs, athletes, and creative innovators? What can they teach us about mind management, resilience and reacting to setbacks, taking responsibility, and cultivating self-leadership? The lessons provided from the podcast have led me to focus not just on pedagogy, exam success and university destinations, but also on building a coaching culture where our teachers, in the same way as coaches, build a high performance culture to ensure young people realise their capabilities to propel them towards success. This means creating high performance mindsets and habits to achieve success which enable our students to be masters of their own plan and destiny. It means providing our students with a roadmap for self-efficacy, for them to really know what they want in life and how to get there.

To find out more, visit us at our next open day on Tuesday the 10th of October at 9.30 am at Eaton Square Senior School, 106 Piccadilly, London W1J 7NL. Or if you are interested in Sixth Form, our open day will take place on Thursday the 12th of October at 5.30 pm at 79 Eccleston Square, London SW1V. Best Korean Grill Kensington | Review

korean grill kensington

Kensington Mums reviews

Korean Grill Kensington*****

Sizzle on down to KGK, the first and only Korean grill in the Kensington area. KGK is the only restaurant in London to offer a Omakase dining experience. Omakase literally means ‘I leave it up to you,’ diners leave it up to the chef to select and serve seasonal specialities.

What to expect?

Are you new to Korean food? Get ready to flip meats on a grill, drink Korean traditional vodka soju and enjoy seasonal Korean milkshake for dessert. KGK has compiled everything you need to know about savouring a traditional Korean BBQ experience and Kensington Mums is taking you an experience as we review this as a family dinner in Kensington.

We loved the fact that the chef was in charge of everything. All we needed to do was to place our order and embrace our inner MasterChef and get ready to grill! The kids loved it too, but please make sure they are supervised at all times.

KGK offers a journey into Korean dining BBQ culture.

KGK King Kalbi is a signature dish, diamond cut beef short rib marinated in KGKs signature sauce, ready to be grilled. Each table at KGK has an inbuilt tabletop style grill for a traditional Korean BBQ cuisine of grilling meat over a hot grill in the centre of the table. Diners will be provided with wooden/metal chopsticks to grill, and a good tip is only to flip the meat once for a good texture of meat. We also tried out Bulgogi which literally means “fire meat,” a traditional Korean meal; thinly sliced strips of beef, sirloin, prime rib or brisket served with tantalizing marinade, oyster mushrooms and onions to be grilled together. Non marinated yummy Japanese Wagyu rib eye steak is on the menu to grill as well as whole tiger prawns and seasonal vegetables for non- meat options. Please note that all meat is also Halal.

KGK’s menu explores traditional Korean dishes throughout from the appetisers, try out Yukhoe, Korean Beef Tartare, aromatically flavoured with sesame oil, soy sauce, garlic and Korean pear served with an egg yolk on top. A La Carte main dishes include pork belly Su-yuk with ssamjang, the grilled pork belly is an extremely popular Korean dish. If you have space for more, you can savour soybean ice cream or lychee sake milkshake for dessert.

Journey through Korean dining culture

Korean culture loves side dishes known as Banchan, plenty of side dishes are considered a way to season and flavour throughout the meal. Traditional Korean cabbage, Pajeoli a traditional Korean salad and seasonal namul a vegetarian side can all be experienced.

Special events

Savouring a Korean meal is more of a fun group outing, while some food can easily be enjoyed as a solo meal. The chef’s Omakase experience is a great fun night out of stag do’s, work events and family get togethers. A traditional Korean meal is fun with a group or people all preparing the food, grilling meats, side dishes and dealing with marinades. As The Korean Guide notes, Korean barbecue is more than just a meal, and sharing it with friends and family is part of the package. To be able to taste the variety of marinades, meats, and side dishes, you’re going to want to share with a group of hungry people.

KGK will be offering lunchtime set menus between £22-25; Korean salads, a choice of Bulgogi (marinated beef), Shrimps, rice/soup and seasonal dessert like Soybean ice-cream to enjoy with friends. A vegan menu that is reminiscent of a day at a Buddhist temple and will include hot stone rice dishes. The evening menu A La Carte comes in at around £65.00 per head and the pièce de résistance the Chef’s Omakase experience.

More fun

If you want to follow the whole Korean culture fully, you might head to a karaoke bar to belt out some tunes, Korean culture loves karaoke, and you never know a karaoke room may be popping up at KGK soon…watch this space!
