Kensington Hotel Review

Kensington Mums would like to thank the prestigious Kensington Hotel, part of the Doyle collection, for a weekend of luxury in the heart of Kensington, London.

The Kensington Hotel invited Kensington Mums for a weekend get-a-way in March for some ‘mummy-time’ and a good night sleep (something most mums need) as an early mothers’ day treat. Having hosted two of our blog anniversary dinners at the hotel, we couldn’t have been more excited to experience everything the hotel had to offer. From the moment we stepped into the hotel we were greeted by friendly and professional staff who helped us to our luxury studio suite, and what a luxury it truly was. The suit was airy and bright, with beautiful furniture and fabrics decorating the room. Their attention to detail is something we admire, the three mini fresh apples next to a personalised welcome note, so thoughtful and tasty. Turn down service was impeccable with the addition of warm tea offered as an end of day treat, something all mums and everyone could definitely get used to.

We also have to mention the bathroom. For us, a nice bathroom in your hotel is very important and the bathroom in our suite definitely did not disappoint. We loved it. You walked up three small steps and entered into a spacious, marbled room with beautiful stained wooden floors. In the middle was a beautiful old style white bath and there was even a TV in the bathroom that you could watch while having a good soak. There was also a selection of shampoo and conditioners from Aromatherapy Associates which smelled divine. Everything was immaculate and felt very clean and fresh.

Kensington Mums was also invited for a 3-course meal in the beautiful setting of the recently refurbished Town House, a little gem within the hotel. The room has a lovely atmosphere and is a great place for mummies to catch up and share a little girlie gossip.

We found the waiter to be very attentive and helpful without getting in the way of us enjoying our meal. It was difficult to decide what to have for dinner as every dish on the menu sounded delicious.

As a pre starter we had vegetable crudité accompanied by a blue cheese dressing on the side, a great addition to a ‘simple’ vegetable dish with a selection of sourdough, soda and Guinness brown bread.

For one of our starters we had the seared scallops, which came with a heritage tomato and basil dressing. The scallops were beautifully seasoned and cooked to perfection. We also ordered the grilled asparagus with fresh crab & cress. This is a dish I would definitely go back for. The crab was fresh and full of flavour and ‘married’ perfectly with the asparagus. The starters were generously portioned and quite filling.

After the starter we couldn’t resist the ‘day’s special’ of mixed fish grill. The serving was generous with a selection of fresh fish and seafood dressed with a butter and garlic sauce. To accompany our fish dish we ordered chips and spinach, which could not be faulted.  The waiter managed to persuade us to have dessert, and we could not thank him enough. The baked apple tart with vanilla ice cream was delightful. The tart was warm and perfectly baked and the ice cream was rich and creamy, just perfect.

To end our exquisite dinner we had some fresh peppermint and camomile tea to help us digest and get us ready for bedtime. It was a very enjoyable dinner for two but we really missed our Kensington Dads and kids who we will definitely bring along next time we visit the hotel.   We had a wonderful girlie weekend but highly recommend The Kensington Hotel for a family get-a-way in London too. Its perfect and unique location makes it easy for touring some of our favourite museums such as the Natural history museum, the V&A and the Science Museum as well as being walking distance from two of London’s most beautiful Royal parks, Kensington Gardens and Hyde park.

Don’t forget to check their special Easter offer which is available from 27th March and 12th April 2015.
