Cast away to a mysterious island… in South Kensington

The smash-hit classical show for kids, My Great Orchestral Adventure, returns to the Royal Albert Hall in October for another magical musical journey.

Your little ones are invited to sail away with a full symphony orchestra, getting to sing, dance and join in as they help the conductor to navigate the stormy seas and survive a shipwreck.

They’ll journey to a mysterious island, build shelters, ‘swim in the sea’ and meet amazing characters along the way, all without leaving the Royal Albert Hall’s legendary auditorium, thanks to a specially-selected repertoire of orchestral movements, children’s songs and movie themes, along with some pieces you might not have heard before.

Lucy Noble, Artistic Director at the Royal Albert Hall, said: “My Great Orchestral Adventure is about introducing young people to the magic of classical music through an exciting, engaging story, a string of unforgettable instrumentations and plenty of fun audience interaction.

My two children came along to last year’s concert with me, and were wowed by the atmosphere, the costumes and the unforgettable music, as they helped the conductor to find a magic baton. We can’t wait to invite young audiences back to the Hall for this stunning follow-up show with its fun nautical theme – all aboard the HMS Albert!”

The event on Wednesday 25 October will be hosted by ‘Chief Adventurer’ Tom Redmond, with his brother, Timothy Redmond, acting as Master of Ceremonies, and conducting the Royal Albert Hall’s own celebrated Orchestra of Adventurers.

It has been designed by the Hall’s Education & Outreach department as an ideal introduction to orchestral concert music – at the home of classical music – for kids, toddlers and under- 3s, who have the chance to interact with the performers, and vote to determine where the story goes next!

Last year’s sell-out performances were celebrated on CBeebies and rapturously received by young audiences, whose reviews included:

“It was great, I really liked the Star Wars music and when Tom had to go into the troll cave and got snot all over his hand. That was really funny. 10/10”

“It was really brilliant. I liked going on a bear hunt. 10/10”

My Great Orchestral Adventure is the headline show of a jam-packed October half-term programme at the Hall, featuring concerts, storytelling sessions and activity workshops.
