We reveal our favourite family breakfast destinations in and around the area.
Paul
A popular boulangerie with sites throughout the city, Paul brings a touch of Paris to London. The breakfast menu consists of a number of delicious traditional French pastries such as croissants, pain au chocolat and delightful mini chocolate beignets or doughnut bites available in bags of 5, 10, 25, 50 or 100. Perfect for any little (or big) pickers.
Balans
Situated on Kensington High Street, Balans is a perfect pre-museum visit. Open every day from 8 am for breakfast, brunch is served all day, so no need to rush!
Café Phillies
Phillies has a more relaxed, local vibe. The staff is wonderfully friendly and the breakfast menu is traditional and delicious. The pancakes are a particular hit with the children which come with lashings of fruit and maple syrup.
Granger & Co
Granger has four sites across London, including one in Chelsea and the original London restaurant in Notting Hill. The restaurant boasts light and bright décor and a buzzy atmosphere although be aware that there are often queues at the weekend. The breakfast menu has a good selection for vegetarians and a large selection of egg dishes.
The Wolseley
With its glorious black and white marble details and elegant décor, The Wolseley is a fabulous place to dine with or without children. Its busy, loud, high-ceilinged dining room is perfect to mask noisy children and the staff is enormously accommodating of a mum’s requirements.
Balthazar
It’s hard to rival the Weekend Brunch menu available at Balthazar. With lobster, caviar, a crustacea bar and a whole host of breakfast Hor D’Oeuvres available, Balthazar’s bountiful platters will see you through until suppertime. The staff welcome children with open arms and there’s a large selection of food for them to enjoy, including amazing almond waffles served with berries, crème fraîche and maple syrup.
Duck and Waffle
With beautiful views of the City, Duck & Waffle is located on the 40th floor of 110 Bishopsgate. Children love the excitement of travelling in the express scenic lifts to the restaurant as much as they like the three ‘Sweet Waffles’ menu options, including ‘The Full Elvis’ which contains PBJ, caramelised banana, Chantilly cream and all the trimmings.
Aubaine
Aubaine has several restaurants across London, including in Kensington and Notting Hill. The breakfast menu is traditionally French whilst the brunch menu is deliciously opulent with a varied aperitif menu and a food menu featuring all of the delicious classics as well as a sumptuous Lobster Benedict. Children enjoy the selection of French pastries and the French toast brioche which comes with caramelised banana, berries, crème fraîche and maple syrup.
202
A friendly and upbeat restaurant, 202 is situated in a boutique concept store. Frequented by young, fashionable Notting Hill-ites, it’s not the immediate choice for breakfast with children but it’s buzzy, friendly and relaxed and welcomes younger diners.
Farm Girl
The Farm Girl is the perfect place for a morning caffeine fix. Serving artisan coffees alongside delicious healthy dishes which are served in bright, fun surroundings that delight young patrons. The Chelsea restaurant (there are also sites in Notting Hill, Knightsbridge and Soho) has a wonderfully varied brunch menu and a number of dishes loved by children.
Caravan
The enormously spacious Caravan in King’s Cross guarantees that buggy-parking will never be a problem. The menu is varied and they have an on-site coffee roastery – perfect for any coffee connoisseur or just anyone suffering from sleep deprivation!
The Good Egg
The Good Egg mixes the flavours of the Middle East with those found in classic Jewish delis. Their award-winning Shakshuka is indescribably flavoursome whilst the children might enjoy the crispy halloumi, pretzel challah and their delicious selection of bagels.
The Daylesford
The Daylesford Organic Farmshop and Café is a wonderfully child-friendly option based in the heart of Notting Hill. Its menu of eggs, oats and a market garden vegan breakfast is simple yet beautifully presented and its relaxed atmosphere makes it perfect for families.
Ottolenghi
Islington’s Ottolenghi is a wonderful treat for any foodie with a unique breakfast menu including Pulled Cabrito Goat and Scrambled Rose Harissa Tofu. Whilst the children might not get on board with that side of the menu, there are also delicious cinnamon brioche pretzels and Halva and chocolate Danishes to tickle their fancy.
El&n
The darling of the Insta-set, El&n is the home of backdrops to die for. A visual treat for child and adult alike Elan’s breakfast menu consists of delicious breakfast bowls and a variety of eggs and pastries. It also has a fantastic coffee and tea menu and a number of deliciously flavoured lattes.
Breakfast Club Café
A perfect spot for those with small children! The Breakfast Club Café is busy and noisy, the staff is always friendly and the food is fun and plentiful. The Butternut Shakshuka Benedict is a veggie’s dream whilst their Banana and Salted Caramel Pancakes are a treat for any small person.
