Save Lives with Race for Life
Cancer. It sounds obvious but no-one likes it. Cancer Research UK’s ‘Race for Life’ is back this summer with a new tone tougher of voice. Strong, determined women are uniting across London in a defiant message that together, we will beat cancer. Cancer Research UK’s aim is to pioneer life-saving research to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Our approach is working – cancer survival rates have doubled over the last 40 years. You can help us make it sooner and create more tomorrows by signing up to Race for Life today!
Since it started in Battersea Park in 1994, an incredible 6 million women have run Race for Life, and have raised an astonishing £457 million to help prevent, diagnose, control and cure over 200 forms of cancer. There are 14 Race for Life events happening all over London this summer, just put your postcode into raceforlife.org to see the dates of your local events.
In the Kensington area, the two local Race for Life events are happening at Battersea Park on Wednesday 12th June, and Hyde Park on Sunday 14th July. The Battersea event will be in the evening so runners can go after work. These events have been very popular in the past; last year over 11,000 women attended these races and raised over £1,000,000 for Cancer Research UK. A brilliant effort which we are hoping to top this year!
Louise Needham, Senior Area Event Manager at Cancer Research UK, said: “Race for Life is non-competitive. It doesn’t matter how fit or fast you are. Taking part is about joining together against a disease that affects all of us. You can walk the 5k or 10k routes, run it, jog it or even dance your way round if you prefer. Please take the first step by signing up today.”
Every hour, more than three people are diagnosed with cancer in London*. Participants for Race for Life are from different walks of life but they are united by their absolute determination to take on cancer and beat it.
Louise continued: “There are over 200 cancers and we won’t give up until we find cures for them all. It’s fighting talk and we mean every word we say. Cancer, London is coming to get you.”
