Kensington Mums x Japan House | Event

Japan House

Exploring the fascinating fusion of cultures at the Kensington Mums x Japan House event. A beautiful blend of East and West, tradition and modernity.

You are invited on 29th of September for a back to school event at Japan House in Kensington.

Explore the vibrant diversity of Japanese graphic arts in this bold exhibition at Japan House London which bridges the worlds of fine art, commercial illustration and counterculture.

Presenting the work of 60 Japanese artists, the show features late 20th-century innovators such as Tanaami Keiichi and Yamaguchi Harumi alongside a number of emerging artists being exhibited in the UK for the first time.

Together with well-known styles such as pop art and surrealism, the exhibition explores the concept of heta-uma, which translates as ‘bad, but good’, referring to apparently unskilled art which reveals greater merit upon closer inspection.Inspired by an annual exhibition in Tokyo of the same name, and curated by artists Hiro Sugiyama and Takahashi Kintarō, WAVE: Currents in Japanese Graphic Arts presents a rare opportunity to experience the diversity of Japanese illustration and graphic arts in one place outside Japan.

During this event, a member of the highly experienced Visitor Experience Team at a Japan House London will give a child -friendly tour of the exhibition. Questions are invited from children and their parents at any time during the tour, which will last for about 20-30 minutes.

The tour will be preceded or followed (depending on which group you are in) by a badge making workshop.  Children and parents can choose from a number of ready-made badge designs based on fragments of some of the 60 works featured in the exhibition or use their creativity to design their own original badge.

Children and parents will be able to help themselves to hot and cold drinks and biscuits during the workshop sessions. When booking, each child must be accompanied by an adult. Limited places available. No refunds available.

Bread Ahead Afternoon Tea at Pavillion Road Bakery

Bread Ahead Afternoon Tea

Kensington Mums reviews*

Bread Ahead, the celebrated artisan bakery has launched its first afternoon tea at ‘The Tea House’ located upstairs at their Pavillion Road bakery. Kensington Mums was excited to try Bread Ahead Afternoon Tea for a traditional English afternoon tea experience. At Bread Ahead expect leaf teas from Fortnum & Mason, a selection of homemade bridge rolls, traditional cakes including a crème mousseline (our favourite) and raspberry jam Swiss roll (made in their kitchen), Battenberg and warm scones served with clotted Cornish cream and Bread Ahead’s secret recipe Strawberry Jam. What is there not to like?

What’s more, as we were sitting upstairs, we had amazing views of Pavillion busy Road. The kids got a sneak peak over the dedicated pastry kitchen where the  pastry chef was preparing our afternoon tea. You can easily look over the glass window which shows the kitchen in action. The sandwiches homemade bridge rolls were delicious, that we had to ask for more. The menu embraces seasonality and traditional bakes expertly paired with a selection of Fortnum and Mason teas. The staff were very friendly and were always there checking up on us to make sure we had all we needed.

The sandwiches included a selection of compressed cucumber, whipped cream cheese, Burford brown eggs, mayonnaise and mustard cress Scottish smoked salmon, zested lemon butter chicken. We were then served St Clement Posset which is something to try!

Discover the finest afternoon tea at the Tea House in Pavilion Road, Chelsea.

The Tea House is designed by Bread Ahead founder and chef Matthew Jones and offers a very unique space to enjoy a memorable afternoon tea with friends and family.

Bread Ahead Afternoon Tea is served Wednesday – Sunday at 3pm in ‘The Tea House’ located at 249 Pavilion Road SW1X 0BP. Priced at £50pp.

Whether you are in London, visiting or just been out to the theatre or after a long day of shopping, head to the  popular Michelin Guide recognised Taiwanese restaurant. As for the menu at Din Tai Fung Centre Point expect to enjoy the brand’s famous Xiao Long Bao, as well as its signature cocktails Din, Tai and Fung. The menu has a selection of dumplings both with pork and some vegetarian options available. Award Winning dining

Experience the latest in culinary excellence AA Rosette dining at FoxHills Club and Resort.

The Fox Dining located in the heart of the 19th-century Manor House. We had dinner there and really enjoyed award-winning dining across three individually designed rooms. We would especially recommend the Tempura Cod cheeks and pigeon for starters and as for mains, we really enjoyed the Seaweed Gnocchi and Lamp rumb. Breakfast is also served there and you can choose a la carte or from the breakfast bar.

The Hotel also has a brasserie-style restaurant called Nineteen, and bar with golf course views. You can enjoy drinks, light bites or wholesome British classics daily. Something good to know is that children aged six years and older are able to dine at any time in Nineteen. Children under six are welcome from 3pm.

Make sure you try their ice cream with special toppings of your choice. With fresh smoothies, craft beers and wonderful children’s menus, Flo’s is perfect for all the family. We had really good weather when we were there so we really enjoyed having our lunch outside the picturesque gardens and golf course.

At Manor Lounge, you can enjoy a range of ‘British Tapas’ light bites for lunch and cocktails/drinks until late. Afternoon tea and coffee is also served all day.

Foxhills club and resortAward winning spa

Something that any mother or couple really need is me time. What to Do in August in London

August

The summer holidays are finally here and if you are planning to stay in the city this August, there is plenty for the family to do! Here is a list of our absolute favourites…

Summer Family Activities

AugustDiscover the ‘Green Journey’ installation and sustainability-inspired creative workshops at London Transport Museum until 3rd September 2023. Learn how climate change affects London and discover the transport innovations, green jobs, and small actions people can take at home to make a difference. Families can also join sensory storytelling sessions, creative ‘Build Better’ workshops and a stamper trail around the Museum galleries. And what’s more, kids go free!

Delve into the Jurassic and meet the modern-day relatives of the animals that lived alongside dinosaurs in this fantastic animal handling show at the Natural History Museum, including snakes, lizards and tarantulas.

Don’t feel like going anywhere today? Worry not! We’ve got you covered. Colour, cut and build to create your own design project at home this summer. The Design Museum is offering printable activities for you and your little ones. Check out their website to see what’s on this week.

AugustDiscover Replay – A Limitless Recycled Playground – a space built entirely out of waste materials, repurposed for fun by the Herd Theatre at South Bank Centre. Children and their families are invited to play in this space full of things you can move, change, combine, wear and reimagine. And if you feel peckish afterwards, snack on some tapas while overlooking the Thames at La Gamba, a Tapas restaurant inspired by traditional Spanish recipes and flavours with a focus on the north-western corner of Galicia. Perfect for sunset drinks and dinner.

If you prefer greenery, the LookOut Discovery Centre in Hyde Park is welcoming families for their popular drop-in Discovery Days between the 15th and 17th of August, for a variety of Peter Pan-themed activities such as pirate orienteering challenges, making nest boats and building a home for elves and fairies.

And summer would not be summer without the Kensington and Chelsea Festival which returns again this year until 31st August. It will offer a large range of activities across the borough including dance, music, outdoor arts, films, circus, opera, theatre, art, and more. Visit their website to see the programme.

The children’s programme for August includes Finding Nemo, Up, Space Jam, Robin Hood and Surf’s Up.

Parks and Fountains

AugustEnjoy a picnic in one of Kensington Mums’ favourite parks or, if you need to cool down a little, dip your toe in one of West London’s public fountains.
