Belvoir Farm Rose Meringue Kisses | Recipe

Meringue Kisses

For the Meringue Kisses

Egg Whites 2 medium

Caster Sugar 110g

Belvoir Farm Elderflower & Rose Cordial 1tsp

For the Ganache

White Chocolate 100g finely chopped

Double Cream 70ml

Raspberries 40g

Belvoir Farm Elderflower & Rose Cordial 20ml

Red Food Colouring – few drops to taste

Method

1. Pre-heat the oven to 120°C (fan 100°C, gas mark 1). Line two baking sheets with non-stick baking parchment.

2. Put the egg whites into a clean, dry bowl and use an electric mixer to whisk the eggs until they form stiff peaks. Gradually add the sugar a tablespoon at a time, whisking well after each addition before adding the Belvoir Farm Cordial. Whisk until the meringue looks thick, firm and glossy.

3. Gently fold in the pink food colour until you get the desired shade. Note the colour may fade slightly in the oven so you may want to colour the meringue slightly darker than the desired final shade.

4. Carefully spoon the meringue into a piping bag fitted with a large open star piping nozzle and gently squeeze until the meringue is just visible at the nozzle. Pipe small swirls approximately 3 cm in diameter onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving a gap of at least 3cm between each swirl.

5. Bake in the pre-heated oven for 1 hour – 1 hour 15 until the meringues are dry to the touch, easily peel off the paper and sound hollow if the bottom is very gently tapped. Turn off the oven and leave the meringues to cool with the door ajar. The meringues can be made in advance and kept for a week in an airtight container.

6. To make the ganache: heat the double cream over a low heat in a saucepan until just boiling. Remove from the heat and pour over the finely chopped chocolate. Stir well until the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth.

7. Lightly crush the fresh raspberries and fold into the ganache, you can also add a few drops of pink food colour to give a pink colour if desired and add the Belvoir Farm Cordial. Chill for 15 -20 minutes or until thickened to a spreadable consistency.

The Rhitriton+ Vegan Multivitamin is ‘Brilliance, Bottled’

veganuary

Rhiannon Lambert UK’s leading Nutritionist created Rhitrition+. Her clients come to her in the clinic with long lists of supplements they are taking and she tells them they they don’t need all of this. Her advice is there are actually only a few supplements we should be taking, depending on your stage of life and lifestyle e.g. if you are pregnant or follow a vegan diet.

Before establishing Rhitrition+, Rhiannon always knew when recommending supplements to clients which ones were better, but it always felt like which is the lesser of the evils.

When she used to look for supplements during COVID, before Rhitrition+, she was shocked at what they were putting into them – sugar, palm oil, low-quality ingredients. On top of this, they didn’t contain the correct dose, they were unrecyclable. She sat down and thought, to use her time wisely to create a supplement company that provides evidence-based supplements containing only what you actually need.

Rhiannon thought what if she can make a company that’s sustainably sourced, high quality, recyclable and only contains a small range of supplements that will actually help people.

The Rhitriton+ Vegan Multivitamin is ‘brilliance, bottled,’ supporting a vegan diet with four key nutrients: Vitamin B12, Iron, Iodine, and Selenium.

This multi is formulated with 4 essential micronutrients that can be difficult to get from a vegan diet alone, it’s your source of complete confidence in your vegan diet.

  • Vitamin B12 is vital for the proper functioning of your nervous system. This vital vitamin is primarily found in animal products as plants neither need, nor synthesise, vitamin B12.
  • Iodine supports cognitive function, while also contributing to the maintenance of healthy skin and thyroid function. Plant-based sources of iron (non-heme iron) are less readily absorbed by the body compared to the heme iron found in animal products, therefore it can be difficult to get enough of this mineral on a vegan diet.
  • Selenium helps bolster your immune system and supports normal spermatogenesis, while guarding against oxidative damage to your cells and tissues. Although it can be found in varying amounts in plant foods, the amount of selenium in plant foods is inconsistent as it largely depends on the soil content.
  • Iron plays a pivotal role in reducing tiredness and fatigue, supporting cognitive function, and aiding in the formation of red blood cells. Dietary iodine is primarily found in animal sources such as seafood, eggs and dairy, which leaves vegans susceptible to deficiency.

Is Homeschooling Right for my Child?

homeschooling

Sponsored content by Sam Tutoring

Homeschooling has become more and more popular over the last decade, during the pandemic many families were forced to adopt this method of learning and many have not returned to a conventional school setting post-COVID. In this article, we explore some of the questions you will need to ask yourself to decide if homeschooling could be right for you and your family. Consider these four questions before you proceed in your homeschooling journey.

Why do you want to homeschool?

There may be many reasons why you may be considering homeschooling. Our culture is becoming more and more polarising and some families may feel the current culture is morally bankrupt and not aligned with their values and morals, it then becomes more difficult to justify allowing your child to spend at least 6 hours a day in this environment for approximately 36 weeks of the year that are not aligned with your values.

Alternatively, there may be additional elements of learning that you value that are not part of the curriculum, for example, outdoor pursuits, financial literacy or other life skills.

Homeschooling also allows you to control the pace of work, and delve into topics in a lot more depth than you may be afforded in mainstream school. Whatever the reason as with most cases your why needs to be clear and strong to take such a serious step away from mainstream education.

Is homeschooling a better alternative?

Just because you’re considering homeschooling this does not mean that it is a better alternative than mainstream education. Is home a safer and more conducive learning environment? Often parents will remove students from school due to bullying or other adverse situations but parents must consider if home is a better environment. Do they have space to work? Is it a stable environment? Will they be protected and nurtured there?

There is a difference between homeschooling and doing school at home, when doing school at home you are recreating what is being offered by their current institution normally via online or textbooks and worksheets are given by the school and they are to be completed at home.

On the contrary, when it comes to homeschooling you become responsible for all aspects of their education, the subjects covered, the resources used, etc…

homeschooling

Do you have the facilities to be able to do this?

Parents before taking on the responsibility need to be aware of what they are committing to and the amount of time and energy that will be required of them. Along with this will be a requirement of resource gathering, administration as well as teaching at times and emotional support.

As a family are you in agreement? This is essential because of the magnitude of the task you are embarking on, parents need to be in agreement or it is going to be very difficult to homeschool effectively. Teaching in itself is not easy, are you patient, composed, and organised? Even if this does not describe you, you will need to be committed to going on this learning journey and be committed to growing as an educator.

Do you have access to a support network of other parents? This will be very important also as you need help and advice from like-minded parents and educators. Another consideration is the fact you probably will not be able to work a full-time job if you are planning to homeschool without external help, this is because along with teaching there will be large volumes of administration and preparation that go into homeschooling you will need to be available to support whilst learning is happening. Therefore this is a financial commitment that families must consider before they decide to homeschool.

Where can I get more information?

Rejecting mainstream education for your children is a very important decision and one that should not be taken lightly this article is in no way exhaustive and is designed to be the beginning of the conversation on the best way to educate your child. If you require any more assistance and advice there are many homeschooling communities online not only in your area but are also aligned with your values.

Along with advising and providing the resources Sam Tutoring can deliver homeschooling sessions both individually and in small groups. For families based beyond Kensington, we’re able to take care of all of your academic needs via our virtual school which is launching in early 2024.

Mamalu, Italian restaurant in Kensington | Review

 Sponsored post by Mamalu

Kensington Mums reviews

About Mamalu

Opened only a matter of months, award-winning restaurant Mamalù as the “Best Restaurant Concept” has quickly seduced both locals and visitors to Earl’s Court with its charming and authentic Italian dining experience.

Whether the occasion is a leisurely weekend family lunch or an intimate dinner for two, Mamalù’s elegant, relaxed and welcoming atmosphere is synonymous with the warm hospitality that Italian culture is famous for.

Authentic and Quality

Showcasing an array of exceptional Italian classics, dishes are prepared using high-quality, sustainable and seasonal ingredients. The staff were so helpful and informative in going through the menu. We ordered a variety of starters to share and mains.

At the heart of Mamalù’s offering is its seafood, much of it caught by certified boats along the coasts of the UK and Italy.

The signature is undoubtedly the gorgeous Plateau Royal, with its medley of Mazara red prawns, Sicilian langoustines, pink prawns, plump Gillardeau, and Cocollos oysters. Other delights from the raw bar include red tuna tartare with avocado & rocket and red Mazara prawn carpaccio with lemon zest, all complemented by cooked dishes of the calibre of Breton lobster and fried Mediterranean octopus with baby chicory.

There is plenty here to tempt carnivores; Mamalù prides itself on selecting premium cuts, such as its Irish T Bone steak, dry-aged for a minimum of 28 days in a Himalayan salt chamber for the most tender and flavoursome results.

Mamalù’s pasta, meanwhile, from paccheri and tagliolini to tonnarello and gnocchi, is produced daily in the in-house Pama Parsi pasta machine, guaranteeing a softer, smoother texture and slightly richer taste.

Tradition is also the mainstay of the deliciously indulgent dessert menu, where favourites such as homemade tiramisu and Tuscan staple Torta della Nonna, a rustic tart made with cream and pine nuts, take centre stage.

Drinks

It’s not just the food that has put Mamalù on southwest London’s culinary map. The restaurant’s knowledgeable in-house sommelier suggests the perfect wine pairing from a carefully curated list of Italian and French vintages.

Looking to bring something a little different to the London dining scene, Mamalù’s owners determined to put their distinctive twist on the traditional Italian restaurant. Using quirky details like the unique tiles and patterns that adorn the interior creates a captivating fusion of modernity and nostalgia that captures the essence of a typical brasserie reimagined for the modern era.

Tucked away from the bustle of the restaurant, Mamalù offers a private dining room that can accommodate up to 18 guests. Ideal for corporate or private lunches or dinners, bespoke menus can also be arranged.

In addition, the restaurant offers various events and can cater to all types of external events; clients can choose from an array of signature dishes, including Mamalù’s raw bar selection.

A Small School Means Big Advantages

small school

Sponsored content by Cameron Vale School

Choosing the right preparatory school for your children can be daunting, especially in a city like London, where the offer is overwhelming.

While some schools may impress parents with top-notch buildings and boosting facilities, it is important to stop and think about what children need at the start of their learning journey.

We must remember that they are still babies making their first steps into the wider world, so a nurturing environment is essential to help them grow in confidence and self-reassurance. At the same time, they need to have a clear sense of structure and here is where small schools make a big difference. Why? Because they have the capacity to walk along with each pupil individually in this crucial stage of life.

small school

These are some of the key benefits of small schools:

  • Individualised Attention: In small schools, class sizes are typically smaller, allowing teachers to give more customised attention to each student. This personalised approach helps understand each child’s unique learning styles and needs, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment.
  • Strong Sense of Community: Small schools often create a close-knit community where everyone knows each other. This sense of community can lead to stronger and long-lasting relationships among students, parents, and teachers.
  • Closer Teacher-Parent Collaboration: With fewer students to manage, teachers can dedicate more time to building strong partnerships with parents. This collaboration is essential for tracking a child’s progress, addressing concerns, and working together to ensure the best educational experience.
  • Increased Safety and Security: Smaller schools generally have a more intimate and secure atmosphere. Parents may feel reassured knowing that the school staff is familiar with every pupil. This makes monitoring who enters and exits the premises easier, thus contributing to a safer and more controlled environment.
  • Flexibility in Teaching Methods: Small schools have the flexibility to adapt their teaching methods to the needs of their students. Teachers can experiment with various approaches to accommodate diverse learning styles and preferences, ensuring each child receives a tailored education.

  • Fewer Bureaucratic Hurdles: There tends to be less bureaucratic red tape in smaller institutions. This can result in more streamlined decision-making processes, making it easier for parents to communicate with administrators and address any concerns promptly.
  • Holistic Development Focus: Small schools prioritise pastoral care, focusing not only on academic achievement but also on the social, emotional, and character development of students. This approach contributes effectively to well-rounded individuals who are better prepared for the challenges of the real world.
  • Greater Involvement in Extracurricular Activities: With a smaller student body, pupils have more opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities. Whether it’s sports, arts, or other clubs, parents may appreciate the chances for their children to explore diverse interests and develop a range of skills.
  • Easier Transition Periods: Small schools can make transitions smoother, such as moving from one year to another or from lower to upper school. The familiar faces and supportive environment can help children adjust more easily to changes in their academic journey.
  • Sense of Belonging: In a small school, children are more likely to feel a strong sense of belonging. This feeling of being part of a tight-knit community can positively impact a child’s self-esteem and overall well-being.

Periods – plan, not panic!

periods

Sponsored content by Katie Lane, CleanMarine nutritionist

For mums with daughters, the teen years are filled with so many things to potentially worry about. And of course, it’s a challenging time for young girls as hormones develop and so many things start to change, physically and mentally. One thing that looms on the horizon is the start of menstruation, and of course, there’s no start date for this, and everyone is different. For some, it can be a daunting and overwhelming time, whereas for others, it signals growing up, maturing and entering a new phase of life.

Katie Lane, nutritionist for CleanMarine, which produces PeriodPlan has come up with some tips and advice for mums with teenage and young girls

1. Plan, prepare and be open

Like so many things in life, preparation is key and so is being open about it. A certain amount of information is going to be given out at school and of course, there will be chit-chat in the playground, some of which will be accurate and some that will be old wives tails. Having an open and honest conversation at home can go a long way to dispelling some of those worries and setting the record. Be prepared for the obvious questions that she will ask, such as will it hurt, how long will it last and will it stop me from doing things. And don’t be afraid to discuss it around dad as well, there is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of or to hide away from, it’s a natural part of growing up.

There is no way of knowing the start date, but around two years after breast development is a good, rough guide, so plan and prepare by getting sanitary products in stock and involve your daughter in this process. Show her the different options and ask her to choose what she thinks she might like. There are so many options that can also seem daunting but turn this into a positive thing that she will be able to find something that works for her. Make sure to pop a few supplies into the school bag and sports bag as it could happen anywhere, any time.

Most modern teens – ‘screenagers’ – are obsessed with their phones so introduce the idea of an app that can help with planning but also give helpful advice in a private way.

2. Diet and exercise

Diet and exercise are fundamental for our health and wellbeing, and this is the case when it comes to periods. These nutritional considerations should help with PMS and menstruation:

  • Iron – An average of 30ml of blood is lost during menstruation so iron is important because it plays an important role in the production of red blood cells and energy production. Some good sources of iron include lamb, pork, beef, chicken, liver, tuna, prawns, salmon as well as green leafy vegetables such as broccoli and spinach.
  • Vitamin C – this is important because it helps with iron absorption. Choose citrus fruits, berries, broccoli and red peppers to incorporate vitamin C.
  • Omega 3 fatty acids – these may help to reduce inflammation and cramping and can be found in oily fish such as salmon and mackerel as well as flaxseed and avocado.
  • Fibre – it can be a good idea to increase fibre during your period because when oestrogen and progesterone levels are high, it can slow down movement leading to constipation. Great sources of fibre are whole grains such as oats, bran cereal, quinoa, pulses and legumes such as kidney beans, peas, lentils and chickpeas.

Food cravings are common and this is often for sweet treats and chocolate. When these cravings kick in, remember it is just a normal part of PMS.

If you’re feeling low due to PMS, exercise can often be the best remedy as it releases endorphins, which are feel-good hormones. Not only will this make you feel better, it will also make you sleep better so it’s worth considering some exercise that you enjoy such as yoga or swimming.

3. Supplement with PeriodPlan

periods

All girls and women should feel empowered to take control. Cleanmarine proudly introduces PeriodPlan, the unique, all-in-one food supplement that’s scientifically formulated to support people with periods every day. Life shouldn’t stop because your period starts, so that’s when hormones need some help to keep PMS symptoms at bay. The body is impacted by hormones every day, but when taken consistently PeriodPlan supports mind, skin and energy levels supporting people with periods through every day of their cycle.

Let’s take skin health for example. 69% of the trial[1] participants said it helped to reduce skin breakouts, good news for young women who want to gain their confidence back and have healthy skin. Backed by published research, it also helps to have a healthier mind and increased energy levels – in other words, helps you to feel like you and be your true self, despite your period.

PeriodPlan has been scientifically formulated with a fantastic combination of Omega 3 krill oil, B vitamins and vitamin D3 so just two capsules each day provide extra nutritional support for your period, day after day. PeriodPlan is available from www.cleanmarineuk.com as well as Boots and Sainsbury’s and is £12.99 for 30 capsules or £23.99 for 60 capsules.

Randox at Kensington High Street

It was convenient to visit Randox, since they have a branch on Kensington High Street, which is step free in case you are coming with little ones in a buggy. I arrived to my appointment and the staff were very friendly to welcome me and guide me to waiting area. I was then greeted by the medical professional and sat down in a private room

On arrival, I was asked to complete a questionnaire with a qualified medical professional. I was asked to fast for 12 hours before my appointment. I was undergoing  the Discovery Package, more about this is shared below.

During my appointment I had a few tests to do including, urine sample, blood samples, my height and weight were measured and I had to have my blood pressure measured. My appointment lasted approximately half an hour. I was then told that the results will be emailed over to me and also posted via mail. It took around a week or so to receive them and then has scheduled an appointment with their in-house medical GP to go over the results. I was also advised to share the results with my GP and to undergo any further testing if needed.

The Ultimate Guide to Having a Stress-Free Christmas

Christmas

Sponsored content by Luna Bespoke

‘Tis the season for laughter, love, and… okay, let’s admit it, a smidgeon of holiday-induced chaos! 🎁🍫 But while we’re all caught up in the magic of gifts, gingerbread houses, and a chocolate avalanche, it’s essential to remember that for some little ones, the festive season can bring about a touch of anxiety. So, if you’re nodding your head thinking, “Yep, that sounds like my household,” fret not! We’ve got some friendly tips to sprinkle a bit of ease into your holiday hustle:

On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me…

The gift of calm. That’s right! Create a Cosy Corner for Calm: Designate a quiet space where kids can retreat when the holiday excitement gets a bit overwhelming. It’s like a mini sanctuary amidst the festive hustle!

I don’t want a lot for Christmas, I’ve got everything I need…

But plan Elf-Approved Breaks: Just like Santa needs his breaks, ensure there are moments of downtime in your holiday schedule. It could be a simple walk, a board game, or a hot cocoa break.

Rocking around the Christmas Tree…

And Involve your Little Helpers: Turn holiday preparations into a family affair! Whether it’s baking cookies or wrapping presents, let the little ones be part of the festive fun. They’re the best elf assistants!

Christmas

Step into Christmas…

Yet Set Expectations with a Dash of Magic: Have a chat with the kids about what to expect during the holidays. Emphasise the joy and excitement while gently managing expectations.

Last Christmas I gave you my Heart…

Remember Quality over Quantity in Gift-Giving: Remind everyone that the true joy lies in giving and receiving thoughtful gifts, not in quantity. It’s the heart-warming moments that make the holiday season truly special.

I wish it could be Christmas every day

Embrace Tradition with a Twist: Keep family traditions alive but don’t hesitate to add a sprinkle of newness. It’s like combining the familiar warmth of tradition with the excitement of a holiday surprise.

Silent Night…but go easy on the Sugar

Sugar Moderation: While indulging in holiday treats is part of the fun, be mindful of sugar intake. Too many sweets can lead to energy crashes.

Christmas

White Christmas and White noise

Mindful Moments for Little Minds: Teach simple mindfulness techniques to the little ones. Deep breaths and moments of calm can be magical tools to navigate through the holiday hustle with ease.

Jingle Bells!

Elf-Style Decor Choices: Let the kids have a say in decorating the house. It’s like giving them a magic wand to transform your home into a festive wonderland according to their elfin visions!

It’s the most wonderful time of the Year!

Capture the Magic with Family Time: Cherish quality family moments – whether it’s a cosy movie night, a winter walk, or a game by the fireplace. These are the true treasures of the holiday season.
