I hope you all had a lovely long weekend. I am so glad the sun is finally out. I hope it lasts. Last weekend, we attended the One Bigg Magical Party at Roof Gardens in Kensington and it was a great event packed with children, parents and filled with activities, dance and music. We also celebrated the first anniversary of Shrek the Musical in Covent Garden. It was a great family outing!

KM EVENTS

 

 

 

Thank you all for all those who got in touch regarding our events and meets up. This week we have two events taking place.

 

Join other KMs on Tuesday 15th May to get your mojo back for the summer with a Belly Dance with Baby Class  at 11.30am. The original post natal toning program. Taster Class £5 only.
Get back into shape, boost your confidence and have fun with your little one. Babies and toddlers are welcome, there will be soft play mat with toys for little ones to enjoy while you work out in the same room. Or if you prefer, they can dance with you in a sling (some will be provided if you do not have one). To book for your taster class, please click here.

 

 

On Thursday 17th May 2012, will be our KM Mother and Baby Outing to visit the Saatchi Gallery. KM will have guided tour around the exhibition called OUT OF FOCUS. Also included will be the finalists from the international student photography competition in conjunction with Google. Kensington Mums would like to invite you to join us for Baby Cinema at Beaufort House, Chelsea. At 10am on Tuesday 29th May join Kensington Mums for coffee/tea, a film and lunch at Beaufort House Chelsea all for only £9.90. Please note this is an exclusive event just for Kensington Mums. The morning will start with a welcome tea or coffee where you will get the chance to chat with the other mums.   The film will be screened at 10.30am in the Club Room at Beaufort House on their 65-inch plasma with surround sound.  Your little ones can either sit on your lap or kick around on the soft matting that will be provided while you sit back and relax. Something New at London’s Oldest Botanic Garden…at the Chelsea Physic Garden is creating an inspiring new half-acre garden opening to the public on 23 May 2012. The Garden of Edible and Useful Plants will display an extraordinary range of plant species on which humanity depends; from forest fruits and land restoration plants to superfoods and plants used for hygiene, science and the arts. Introduction to Victoria Revealed at the Kensington Palace. Explore Queen Victoria’s long and fascinating life in her childhood home, Kensington Palace. May 24th. On that day in 1819 Queen Victoria was born at Kensington Palace. Follow Victoria’s story from the room in which she spent her first moments as queen. Montessori for Families on Saturday 19th May from 11-4pm at the Museum of Childhood. A practical workshop led by educators from Montessori. Join in a day packed with hints and tips and useful techniques to aid your child’s learning. This is a free drop in event and suitable for all ages. For more information, please visit their website.

Jump for Victory at the National Gallery on Sunday 20th May 2012 at 11am – 1pm (Repeated 2–4pm). Discover mythological characters, creatures and competitions and make a trophy to present at your very own games. Suitable for children 5-11. For more information, please click here.

 

Titanic Remembered  at National Maritime Museum (ongoing until 30th Septemeber 2012). To mark the centenary of the sinking of the passenger liner Titanic in 1912, a small exhibition will take place at the Museum. FREE. For more information, please click here.

Free BP Summer Big Screens in Trafalgar Square on Thursday 19th May.

Join the Royal Opera House in celebrating 25 years of live, free outdoor relays with the BP Summer Big Screens in 2012. Screening will be La bohème at 7.30pm. For more information, please click here.

 

 

 

Storytelling for Families at the National Portrait Gallery. Saturday 19th: A Very Royal Event from 10:30-11:15 and again at 13:30-14:15. This is followed by Family Art Workshops: Royal Portraits at 11:30-13:00 and again at 14:30-16:00. What would you do if you met a King and Queen? Find out what happens when someone does just that! Then get the chance to make a crown after the story. With BSL interpretation. Storytelling sessions are suitable for children 3+.  The workshops are suitable for children aged 5+. FREE event and no ticket is required for the storytelling. Children’s Events Shows at the Watermans (in Brentford). Pandemonium (0-24mths) Summer 2012. On every Wednesday at 10.30am from 18 April to 4 July except 6 June. Sing songs and play simple percussion instruments with your children in this very fun and lively workshop. This is a brilliant way introduce music to your children teaching the very basics including rhythm and rhyme and simple games. It is an opportunity for big and small people alike to make new friends.

Box at the arts depot. Sunday 20th May at 12pm and 3pm. BOX is crammed to the top with fun and intrigue, allowing the imagination to take flight. Notting Hill Mayfest will start from the 14-27 May 2012. It is Mayfest’s 10th birthday. Come and join the celebration with a fine selection of emerging British talent. Notting Hill Mayfest is based in St John’s Church.  Please note that some concerts take place in nearby St Peter’s Church. Ballgowns Exhibition at the V&A. This spring the V&A celebrates the opening of the newly renovated Fashion galleries with an exhibition of beautiful ballgowns, red carpet evening dresses and catwalk showstoppers. The exhibition will feature a selection of royal ballgowns, including Princess Diana’s ‘Elvis Dress’ designed by Catherine Walker, dresses as worn by actresses and celebrities including Beyoncé, Sandra Bullock and Elizabeth Hurley, and a stunning metallic leather dress created especially by innovative designer Gareth Pugh. Somerset House Family Workshops, every Saturday from 14:00-15:30.Holiday Drop-in Workshop: River Poems on Saturday 19th May 2012. Come and  create haiku (very short three line poems originally from Japan) about the river to complete a giant Thames made of poems. Museum of London for Under 5s. Learn, play and explore together every Wednesday during term-time. Mini Moles babies group (6 months – walking) 11am – 12pm, Little Moles toddlers group (walking – 5 years) 3.30-4.30pm. Please call the Box Office on 020 7001 9844 to book your place on one of our sessions in advance, on the Monday before the Wednesday you would like to visit. Booking opens at 10am for the Little Moles toddlers group and from 11am for the Mini Moles babies group.

Wigmore Hall Learning offers a wide range of events at the Hall with opportunities for people of all ages to join in with chamber music and song as performers, listeners, composers and music makers. These include include: For Crying Out Loud! – concerts for new parents and their babies, Toddler Bop – workshops for 1 – 2 year olds, Chamber Tots – workshops for 2 – 5 year olds,  Family Events – including concerts and workshops, Young People’s Events – including courses and workshops, Chamber Zone – our free ticket scheme for 8 – 25 year-olds, Behind the Music – study events, talks and masterclasses.

 

 

Drop in Design at the V&A. Sunday 20 May: Fancy Fashion
Families are invited to Camilla Prue Tinklebottom’s fancy dress party. They must choose their favourite outfit in the V&A collection to wear and design a fancy accessory to complete the outfit. For more information, please click here.
If you would like to treat your other half to a movie, head to the Lounge at ODEON Whiteleys. This is not your normal cinema outing.This luxury cinema experience gives you access to a bar, dinner served by your personal waiter with luxurious reclining seats. The cover is for their feature piece that looks at attachment parenting.
