Welcome to our first May newsletter. Thank you for all those who came to our meet up last Monday. I hope you all enjoyed the talk and took away some useful tips. If you want to recommend any specific guest speakers for our meet ups, please get in touch with me. Recommendations are always welcome.

 

KM EVENTS

 

 

Our next meet up will be a Belly Dance with Baby Class on Tuesday 15th of May at 11.30am. The original post natal toning program.Taster Class £5 only.
Get back into shape, boost your confidence and have fun with your little one. Babies are welcome, there will be play mat with toys for them to enjoy while you work out in the same room. Thursday 17th May 2012, KM Mother and Baby Outing to visit the Saatchi Gallery. KM will have guided tour around the exhibition called OUT OF FOCUS. Also included will be the finalists from the international student photography competition in conjunction with Google. Lush Spa Kings Road is offering Kensington Mums a FREE pamper session on May 21st at 1pm where you can have the choice of a hand or foot pamper ready for sandal weather. Kensington Mums would like to invite you to join us for Baby Cinema at Beaufort House, Chelsea. At 10am on Tuesday 29th May join Kensington Mums for coffee/tea, a film and lunch at Beaufort House Chelsea all for only £9.90. We will start the morning with a welcome tea or coffee where you will get the chance to chat with the other mums.   The film will be screened at 10.30am in the Club Room at Beaufort House on their 65-inch plasma with surround sound.  Your little ones can either sit on your lap or kick around on the soft matting that will be provided while you sit back and relax. KEEPIN’ IT LOCAL – WHAT’S ON FOR YOU AND YOUR LITTLE ONE(S).

 

The Sunday Spot, every Sunday at South London Gallery. Explore the work of Alice Channer through hands-on family workshops. These weekly artist-led workshops are experimental and playful so come prepared to be spontaneous. All welcome, ideal for children aged 3–12 years. FREE. For more information, please click here.

 

Starting the 20th of May. Studio Portrait in the Saatchi Gallery. Following a family-oriented tour, families will engage with Daniel Gordon’s pictures to create their own work in the education room. WIGGLY JIGGLERS at Richmix. Suitable for children ages 0-2. Monday 14th May from 1-3pm.At these creative movement sessions kids will get the space, the freedom and the time to move in ways that support their development, and that stimulate their imaginations. Travels with granddad at the Lyric Theatre. Meet Granddad, eccentric traveller, and hear magical tales of adventure in both the real and imaginary worlds. Baby French Tales (Age: 0-3) at the Institut Français on Saturday 12th May at 11am. Comme Papa, storytelling. My grandad was really naughty when he was a little boy; he never put his toys away, ate his greens or washed behind his ears. My dad when he was a boy liked listening to the radio and apparently his TV was all black and all white. Tim and Light, puppet show at Stratford Circus on Saturday 19th May at 11.30am and 5pm. Combining an exciting original soundtrack and memorable puppets, Tim and Light is a story of courage that will warm the hearts of young and old alike. A Musical Journey on Thursday10th May 2012 at 7pm. A Children’s Charity Concert sponsored by KCMS/Montessori UK in support of the national charity DEBRA. Designed for children (age 8 – 12) with their parents, or grandparents, as an introduction to classical music. £20 adults, £5 children. All proceeds of the concert are for Charity. Kids’ Kensington: Incredible tales from Kensington Palace – Book Launch Wednesday 23 May 2012, 3.30 to 5pm at the Kensington Central Library.

 

 

Kids’ Kensington reveals the stories of some of its more colourful residents including grumpy kings, clever queens, naughty princesses, savage beasts, wild boys and ferocious rat-killers. This fun-filled book is written by Natasha Narayan. This event for families will include storytelling, book signing and refreshments. May Day on the docks. Celebrate May Day in traditional style with free, fun events for families at the Museum of London Docklands. Also don’t miss on How to be a pirate on Saturday 12th May at Museum of London Docklands, Times: 12.30-1pm, 2.30-2pm & 3.30-3pm. Join in with the fun and games in this drama performance to help our bungling buccaneer learn how to become a proper pirate. Suitable for ages 3+. For more information, please click here.

 

 

Bird Ringing Demonstration at Holland Park Ecology Centre on Saturday 12th May. FREE drop-in event between 7 and 11am to see wild birds in the hand and hear about how the national ringing programme works. You will also learn how ringing aids conservation and our knowledge of birds’ migratory patterns. This event is suitable for all ages. Meet in Holland Park Wildlife Area, Holland Park (W8). Underbelly Festival at the Southbank Centre. THE VOCAL ORCHESTRA on from 6th  April – 8th July 2012. A spine-tingling hour of incredible musical entertainment. The Imperial Festival is a brand new event, celebrating the College through hands-on demonstrations, music, comedy, dancing and art.  All activities are free, open to the public and for all ages.  Food and drinks are available throughout, just drop in at any time. Covent Garden May Fayre & Puppet Festival. Sunday, 13th  May. Punch and Judy Professors and Puppeteers from all over the country will be coming to perform throughout the day at St Paul’s Church Garden. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy the shows and celebrate the art of puppetry on Mr Punch’s 347th birthday. Admission is free and the days activities will start at 10am to 5.30pm. Family fun activities at Kensington Palace. Really royal fashion illustration – children’s workshop. Saturday 19 May 2012. Creative fashion illustration workshop taking inspiration from our amazing Royal Ceremonial Dress Collection. Led by a leading fashion illustrator and artist, the session will look at royal fashion on display in the palace from 18th – 20th century and encourage participants to create their own designs fit for a princess. Museums at Night. Friday May 18 – Sunday May 20 2012. Museums at Night is the annual after hours celebration when hundreds of museums, galleries, libraries, archives and heritage sites open their doors for special evening events. For more information, please click here.

 

 

Bank of England Museum, Museum at Night. On 18th  May the Bank of England Museum will offer its visitors a rare opportunity for an evening visit as part of the nationwide Museums at Night campaign. Doors will open at 5:30pm until 9:00pm, with special events taking place through the evening. Admission and all activities are free, and there’s no need to book. Queen’s Jubilee Coronation Concert. Saturday 12th May at St George’s Church, Aubrey walk W8 at 7.30pm. Includes organ and choral music from the Queen’s coronation, and Mozart’s Coronation Mass. National Gallery Magic Carpet Storytelling

Every Sunday there are two storytelling sessions from 10.30 till 11.00 and 11.30 till 12.00 for under 5’s. Meet in the Education Foyer, National Gallery, Trafalgar Square, WC2N 5DN. Mascots of the Olympic Games at V&A Museum of childhood. 19 May – 28 October. Mascots of the Olympic Games is a small display showcasing over 50 mascots from past summer and winter Olympic and Paralympic Games, including this year’s mascots, Wenlock and Mandeville. The Maternity Unit Miracles Awards would like to hear your birth stories. If you or any of your family or friends have experienced complications or problems with a pregnancy or birth in the last 6 years (the child must be at least 1 or less than 6 years old at 01/03/12, with a birth date between 02/03/06 and 28/02/11). The UK M.U.M. Awards 2012 gives you the chance to say ‘thank you’ to the maternity team that ensured the survival of your baby and nominate them for an award. How having a baby affects our relationships. Netmums have conducted a survey 1,500 members of its members and the results are out.
