Motherhood by Laura Molloy

How do you manage to juggle work and life balance as a mother?

I spend a lot of time organising to try and make the most out of the time I have to make sure I get to spend time with my family, sometimes it can feel like work could easily take over. Over the years we have enjoyed great family holidays and we try to always have our evening meal as a family event.

What was your inspiration behind your business: Swimbabes?

When I was pregnant with my son Josh we had some friends whose little girl was on a baby swimming programme in Brighton and I was amazed at what a fantastic little swimmer she was. Once I had Josh I really wanted to change my career to something that would allow me to have more time with him growing up so I trained and set up swimbabes, I love the water and it is wonderful to see our little swimmers enjoying our swim sessions.

What top tips would you give to any mum on starting her own business?

Be prepared for some long hours, it has to be something you love doing as it takes a lot of commitment to get a business idea into a successful business that you can make a decent living from.

What is your favourite ‘hang out’ spot in London with your children?

We enjoy visiting the parks, taking boat trips and sightseeing.

How do you define quality ‘me-time’?

Life is busy with work and my family so my best me time is just a bit of space to take things at my own pace, now my children are a bit older I have started playing tennis again.

What does motherhood represent to you?

I have found motherhood a real learning experience, you learn to not just think of yourself but become fascinated in your children and they take you on a journey into the unknown as they grow and develop and you can always wonder “what next”.

I’m a mum and…..

I’m a mum and PROUD!

What do you love most about London?

I love the variety, there are so many different areas with such difference in feel it’s great to travel round and experience the parks, wonderful historical buildings and buzzing streets.

What is the best family holiday?

We have been lucky to spend some wonderful family times on holiday, for many years we have returned to the same resort in mallorca each year where we meet up with a few other families – its always been great fun with all the kids playing together and feeling safe and confident in an environment they know well. We love active holidays with lots to do together.

Given we are all about embracing Motherhood, what advice would you give a first time Mum?

Bin the books and don’t succumb to the pressure to be competitive about your children, trust yourself, believe you will do the best for your kids and make the most of every special moment – it’s a cliché but they do grow up quick!
