Motherhood by Annie Reid

We were delighted to interview Annie Reid, mother of four and editor of Angels and Urchins Magazine.

How do you manage to juggle work and life balance as a mother?

Now my youngest are seven it’s easier. I have after school help a couple of afternoons a week and I arrange meetings on those days only. It doesn’t always work.

What was your inspiration behind your magazine: Angels and Urchins ?

My own experience of not having enough information at my fingertips. Fifteen years ago there was a desperate need for go-to publication (before the internet really kicked in), which would list classes and workshops in London, provide inspiration for family days out as well as bringing the latest information on organising birthday parties, decorating a kids’ room, finding fun kids’ clothes.

What top tips would you give to any mum on starting her own business

Trust your instinct.

How do your children inspire your writing and creativity?

They have been hugely influential – my work is all about family and kids!

What is your favourite ‘hang out’ spot in London with your children?

The river and Itsu.

How do you define quality ‘me-time’?

I’m not very good at me time. I do like clothes shopping but wouldn’t never plan it. I am working on making time to learn to sew at the moment.

What does motherhood represent to you?

It’s just a path I chose and one I feel privileged to have been able to take.

What do you love most about London?

It’s a melting pot of ideas, people and tastes.

What is your idea of the best family holiday?

When everyone gets along and laughs – it doesn’t matter where.

Given we are all about embracing Motherhood, what advice would you give a first time Mum?

Don’t fret too much, trust your instincts and be kind to yourself.
