We like to keep you in the loop with what’s on in Kensington. We recently caught up with the owners of Keren’s nursery. Keren’s Nursery in Holland Park is one of three OUTSTANDING nurseries managed with passion by Keren & Assaf Ben-Ezra, who started their first Nursery at home with three children, fourteen years ago. The nursery evolved and grew over the years and nowadays it is a well-established nursery chain.
“We believe in the personal touch”, explains Assaf, “We create communities and as a result, the children feel at home”. The team build a highly stimulating environment, which enables children to be independent, and to initiate their own play and explore ideas.
Keren, who is also the head of education, explains with passion about the way she chooses her members of staff, the way she coaches and trains them to be leaders at the forefront of early years education. She also speaks excitingly about her future goals for the nurseries, in particular the new nursery in Holland Park.
As of last year Keren’s nursery is a Forest School which corresponds with the natural ethos of the nursery. This inspirational educational approach offers children regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in nature. “We are extremely lucky to be located within walking distance of so many parks”. Exploring the outdoors daily is fundamental at Keren’s nursery, regardless of the weather. Keren believes that children learn through play and the activities throughout the nursery’s daily routine are designed to encourage children’s natural curiosity.
The nursery places emphasize on social, creative, communication and listening skills, as well as physical and emotional development. Math and Literacy skills are developed alongside the child’s increased interests and is encouraged daily as part of the curriculum.
Many children attending Keren’s nursery in Holland Park come from different background, it’s wonderful to notice the way the nursery focuses on communicating with the children whose English is an addition language.
The strong foundation skills Keren’s provides the children from as young as 10 months to reception school are vital. “We prepare children for life, not just for entry to school” guarantees Keren proudly. “We are privileged to contribute to the children’s self-esteem, social skills and independence”. Karen’s Nursery also provides extra-curricular activities including Music, Yoga, Stretch & Grow, Sports and even Zumba.
In each of their nursery there is an in-house chef who prepares daily Kosher and fresh homemade meals. Keren’s has won a “healthy eating” award for its divers and nutritious menu.
Ofsted inspectors were very impressed by the strong and confident management teams at Keren’s nurseries which awarded Keren’s nursery the OUTSTANDING grade in the last three inspections. “Management and all staff are extremely committed to providing challenging, unique and memorable learning experiences for all children on a daily basis. Inspirational leadership and high aspirations empower staff to reach their full potential. Staff benefit from highly effective support and professional development opportunities, such as targeted training, to ensure all children make excellent progress.” Ofsted inspection November 2015.
Before choosing your child’s nursery, Keren proposes that “On top of all the above, you must follow your tummy when making your decision”.
