February Half Term Scoop 2016

We bring you our guide to February half term with lots of special events and activities for kids in London. Palace fun and games at Kensington Palace. From 14 – 20 February, 11.00-16.00. Discover what it is like growing up in a palace. Hear about Princess Victoria’s childhood, play some of her favourite games and take part in her past times. These free drop-in family activities are held throughout the day including games and craft activities, with storytelling on selected days.

Little House of Science is a place for Little Scientists to learn, experiment, explore and play! For children aged 3-7 & Big Science 8-11 years. The science workshops are project based with practical hands-on experiments and include take home items and parental notes, they are fun to nurture your child’s natural curiosity. Little Maths Club (2-4 years) for toddler is to learn about how numbers are everywhere, along with music, games, shapes&colours! Little Discovery (6-24 months) is for Mum and Baby taking their first steps together in learning about the fascinating world where there is so much to learn and experience. Kids February Holiday SEWING CLUB. Feeling creative? Want to become a fashion designer? Or maybe just wanting to try something different and be proud to say to your friends ‘I made it myself’. Sew Pretty is a creative sewing studio where everyone can learn to sew. STORYSTOCK, the travelling circus of stories is back at Bush Theatre this half term, 17-19th Feb. There is a packed programme of storytelling shows, award-winning children’s theatre, creative writing, song-writing and mad-cap science workshops. Little ones will be enchanted by storytelling on the hour featuring The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Highlights include, The Arabian NightsA Pocketful of Grimms and a myth mash up in the Myth Marathon. Monday 15-Friday 19 Febraury 2016. Great Court. Free, just drop in. Come to the Museum and take part in a week of family activities inspired by the Asahi Shimbun Display in Room 3, Scanning Sobek: mummy of the crocodile god. Find out about Sobek and other animal deities from around the world. Make something to take home, create an artwork inspired by animal gods and listen to tales woven by our storytellers. Activities will vary throughout the week.

Sculpture/Assemblage with Artist Teresa Paiva at the Saatchi Gallery. Saturday 13th February 2016, from 1-4pm.  Join artist Teresa Paiva in creating relief sculptures inspired by Champagne Life Artist Maha Malluh. Using detritus of food and drink packaging collected from around London and at the gallery, participants will create their own work by assembling these found ‘artefacts’ in multiple compositions. On the threshold between fossils and artefacts, these hint to aspects of consumerism in contemporary living and the re-valuation of such materials. Suitable for 12-16 years old.
