10 things we have learned in lockdown

lockdown

We are living through unprecedented times, a period that our grandchildren will learn about in their history lessons, and as we consider what the new normal may look like after the vaccine roll out, we should reflect on the learning opportunity it has given us.

Here are ten things we have learnt as mothers in lockdown:

  1. Slow down, if you have to make beans on toast for lunch it doesn’t mean you are a bad mum
  2. Ditch the mum guilt, there is not RIGHT way of living through lockdown, just do what is right for you
  3. It’s all a mess, our home, our hair but it doesn’t matter, we are keeping everyone safe at home.
  4. WiFi, ipad, Netflix, playstation may be your best friends during this period and that can all be re jigged after lockdown so don’t worry.
  5. Sleeping while having a bath can also be seen as multi tasking
  6. Connect with your friends and family online. Take care of your mental health and those around you. You never know who may be struggling.
  7. We have to work together to help rid this pandemic and this means wearing masks, washing hands, social distancing to protect loved ones and get back to how we were
  8. Breathe, meditate, pray and do whatever makes your heart happy. Here are 10 ways you can pamper yourself at home.
  9. Be kind to yourself and know that we all in this together and this too shall pass. Take care of yourself here are some ways how
  10. Disconnect, go for a walk without your phone for some digital detox away from the news, media and chaos and just connect with nature.

Most of all I think we have all learnt to not take the little things for granted for they are actually the big things in life. Hugs, family, laughter and caring for others are the primary things we all know we need, so when this is over we will be wiser, happier and closer. For now, all we can do is stay home and connect with other minded mums online and take care of your mental health. You can find an online resource on who to contact in case you need some support.
