Half term scoop, February 2014

This week’s newsletter will be best enjoyed over a nice warm cup of coffee or tea and your diary! We have picked and selected what’s on this half term for you to enjoy as a family. Enjoy reading and planning for this February half-term holiday 2014.

Our local libraries, museums and parks are putting on events for children and families during the week, including arts and crafts, workshops, storytelling and loads of hands on activities and outdoor fun!

Kensington Mums events

Our mumthly coffee morning is taking place on Friday 21st of Feb 2014  from 10-12pm. Only a few more places left. Email us at info@kensingtonmums.co.uk with subject heading ‘Feb coffee morning’ to join us. It is a great way to meet local Mums and make friends. Babies and toddlers are welcome. Limited places are available. You will be contacted if your name is on the list. If you do not hear from us, rest assured that your name will be put for the next coffee morning. What’s on this February half term for you and your little ones. 

Victoria and Albert Museum in South Kensington has tons of activities to keep your little ones entertained and happy. From imagination station to digital kids and pop-up performance, there is something to please everyone. All you need to do is plan what to do!

Sometimes being indoor can be just as fun. Check out your local children centres (Cheyne in the South and Clare Gardens )  will be open on Saturday 15th February so go along to enjoy spending Saturday afternoon, sticking, creating, exploring, painting…This is a drop in session so you do not need to book, just turn up and have fun with other families. Please contact the relevant Children’s Centres for more details.

The Fantastical Story Factory at the Royal Albert Hall is a brand new family show from the award-winning Showstoppers. A musical adventure which will have you exploring magical kingdoms, meeting wonderful characters and singing along by the end. You decide where the story is set, what happens next and who the characters are. You can even join in if you want to, or bring something for them to use in their story – an umbrella, a hat, a banana – you bring it and the Showstoppers will weave the story around it. Head to the Science Museum from February 18 -February 20 for some 3D Printing. FREE. Meet the people behind the printing machines and examine 3D printed objects. While you are there, let your little one enjoy exploring ‘the Garden’ this gem of a place hidden on the lower ground floor of the Science Museum.

Half term also runs at the same time as the Vodafone London Fashion Weekend at Somerset House from February 20- 23. Catwalks, pop-up shops, beauty and hair products, and workshops from leading fashion expert. 100 designers show off their newest designs.

Travel into the past with tales and time machines at the Museum of London. FREE.

The new Holland Park Ecology Centre has so much to offer this half term from exploring the woods and trees for the park to discovering nature’s  recyclers and make a wormery, there is something new for your little ones to explore hand’s on.

Fashion Design Workshop at Kensington Central Library. 17th February 2014 from 2 to 4pm. Suitable for ages 10+. Click here for more information.

Imagine Children’s Festival at South Bank Centre. FREE. Monday 10th February to Sunday 23rd February 2014. Southbank Centre is being transformed BY children FOR children, as well as hosting the top names in children’s literature, dance, theatre and art. Enjoy free activities throughout the festival or just take in the atmosphere as children run the show! We also love the Children Clothes Swap on Sat 15th February 2014.

Is your little one a budding explorer who wants to learn about the capital city’s transport heritage? Then a visit to the London Transport Museum is a must. This half term they have a range of family activities lined up from storytime to make and take, just to name a view.

Half term story and craft sessions at Kensington Central Library. FREE. Thursday 20 February, from 3pm to 4pm. This activity is also taking place in other local libraries, please click here for more information. We also like Cookery + Smart cookery for modern families on Monday 10 February 2014.

Tiny Explorers at Kensington Palace. 12 Feb 2014 – 22 Mar 2014. Explore and play in the palace together! Discover the fascinating stories of Kensington Palace in our multi-sensory workshops for 0-3yrs. Through music, movement, messy play and more, your little one and you will be transported into a magical world of stories. Click here for more information. Suitable for Babies aged 0 – not yet walking sessions at 10.30 – 11.30. Children who are walking – 3 years old sessions at 14.30 – 15.30. Booking essential.

Meet the Otters at London Wetland Centre this half term and enjoy a personal birding walk, what is there not to like?

Experience the magic of the Royal Parks this Half term, from guided walks to discovery days and family learning at the Isis Education Centre.
