It may be unchartered territory, but you’ll make your way through! Here are the 20 things nobody tells you about having a baby!
1. Welcome to sleepless nights. You will never truly drift to sleep for long, perhaps for the next 5-6 years depending on your baby’s sleep routine.
2. Find your mama tribe to help you through the ups and downs of motherhood, as it does take a village to raise a mother (not only a child)
3. All first milestones for your baby will melt your heart. First step, first smile, first food. Make sure you capture it in a baby book.
4. The unconditional love you have for your baby is an indescribable feeling.
5. You’ll develop a can-do attitude.
6. Tears. Lots of them. Happy tears, sad tears, confused tears, tired tears, satisfied tears, blessed tears.
7. Teething is hard for you as much as for your baby.
8. Baby visits to the clinic for vaccines are just horrible.
9. It’s a new role for you as much as it is for your child – you will juggle lots of things, sometimes in one hand.
10. You will experience FOMO (fear of missing out) and sometimes all you want to do is be next to your baby, even if they are sleeping. Just watching them sleep, will put you in a happy place.
11. Motherhood is hard, and there are days when you will feel exhausted and want to collapse. That’s why you need to find your support system or your mama tribe, see point 2.
12. You may experience mum guilt at some point and that’s completely normal as we all do. Let it go, you got this.
13. The first time at the supermarket will feel like a holiday!
14. Breastfeeding Mamas, you will love your boobs while breastfeeding and the special bond you develop with your baby becomes your time together.
15. Enjoy it, as they are only little for a short while.
16. You will talk and brag about your baby at every opportunity you get about your baby.
17. You may feel lonely and down at times, refer to point 11. Always remember there is no such thing as a perfect mother, just a great one!
18. Nights are very looong but the years are so short! Enjoy every second.
19. They don’t come with an instruction manual, but don’t panic as you eventually will know exactly what to do as no one knows them better than you!
20. There is no other job in the world that is more rewarding and amazing than being a mother!
Well done to you, you wonderful mammas!!!
