We’ve all had ups and downs during our lives, times when we’ve felt better about things and when we’ve felt overwhelmed. Particularly during the last few months, there are new types of pressures and demands that many of us could have never imagined, from wondering about the state of the economy to wondering if children will be able to go back to school. That means that the work many of us sometimes put in to taking care of ourselves gets pushed even further back in the line, and that we ignore lots of the warning signs that would have otherwise prompted us to redirect our energies toward more positive things. For example, you may snap at co-workers or family more. You may not be sleeping well, or eating or drinking in really unhealthy ways.
All of that points to severe deficits in self-care routines, but luckily those are deficits to be remedied. First of all is understanding what self care means; it doesn’t have to be a pricey day at a spa. It can be recognising that you aren’t getting enough sleep, for example. It can be finding ways to decompress once stress gets to be too much — even if that decompression is only a few minutes or so. It’s all about self-care practices that benefit not just your mind, but your body and soul, too.
Implementing all those self-care options means that you can be of a bigger help to others. You can take whatever the world throws at you. You can also do more with your day and get more work or other projects done. And fortunately there are lots of different ways to try out self care until you find the routine that works for you. What are some of those options?
