summer of love

Live jazz music, yoga in the park, Kensington + Chelsea Festival, Wildlife Bingo, New Youthquake and Blue Badge tours are just a few of the events launching from 25 June as part of the Council’s Summer of Love (SoL) campaign.

The new initiative is set to welcome people back onto Kensington and Chelsea’s high streets and showcase what local businesses, parks, markets, cultural organisations and more have to offer.

The events will be brought together in a virtual timetable jam-packed with activities to suit all ages and interests, with Covid-secure measures to ensure everyone’s safety.

Cllr Will, Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and Community Safety and the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea Council, said:

“It’s been a challenging year for many of us and life as we once knew it changed drastically.

“As Covid restrictions ease and we look to enjoy the summer months, we welcome locals and visitors to rediscover the unique attractions and undiscovered gems across the borough.

“Summer of Love will be the perfect time to meet with loved ones after being apart for so long, get out and about again, and enjoy our wonderful local businesses, cultural organisations and green spaces – a visit to Kensington and Chelsea this summer is not to be missed!”

An afternoon of jazz music in Duke of York Square will mark the beginning of the campaign, with live music from the borough’s very own 606 Jazz Club.

Other events include:

  • Opera at Holland Park
  • Chelsea Flower Show
  • Kensington + Chelsea Festival
  • Blue Badge history tours
  • Social media competitions
  • Yoga in the Park, and more!

People will also have a once in a lifetime opportunity to play against a former British Chess Champion, and Grandmaster – more details will follow in the summer.

Social media competitions will run during the campaign with plenty of prizes up for grabs. Instagrammers can also add a SoL themed button into their stories by searching for @rbkc.

Through the campaign, the Council aims not only to get businesses, community and cultural organisations back on their feet, but also to spread love and joy right across the borough.

Since the pandemic started in March 2020 the Council has paid out 15,468 Government funded business grants with a total value of £102,099,762. The Council has also put forward £500,000 of its own funds into a business interruption fund, offering grants of up to £5,000 for small businesses in difficulty due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
