plastic free christmas

The leading CSO of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs based in London are running a nation-wide free competition ‘Plastic free Christmas 2021‘ – a United Nations Global Goals initiative that celebrates a Sustainable and Green Christmas, for all ages – children and families (3years and upwards).

The competition is supported by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, alongside global plastic pollution experts Dr Trisia Farrelly (Massey University, NZ & United Nations Task Force Advisor) and Prof. Brendon Godley (University of Exeter), amongst others. We are looking to engage all children, adults and organisations (schools & colleges) celebrating Christmas this year.

About the competition

We are inviting children, their parents and organisations to participate in a Plastic-free Christmas 2021 competition as part of a United Nations Sustainable Development Goals initiative. The  competition is free to enter, offering prizes worth over £500, and is run by Centre for Big Synergy (CBS), a not for profit, civil society organisation of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs. This competition is part of CBS’ global initiative, Microplastic Free 2030.

The details of the competition can be found via the link below.

The competition is open and ends on New Year’s Eve.

Microplastic Free 2030 aims to educate 1 billion children (and their families) across the world about microplastic pollution and equip them with ways to stop it.

Why should everyone participate in the competition?•    Children, individuals, families and organisations will contribute towards the UN’s 2030 Agenda to create a safe and sustainable world for themselves and others.

•    As more people in the UK are working towards being plastic free, competitions as these would help extend their efforts to ensure their families and friends are combating plastic pollution in their everyday lives, even when celebrating Christmas.

•    All participants will receive a certificate of participation and the individual winners and runners-up of the competition will get certificates and vouchers while they celebrate a greener Christmas!

•    Winning letters, photos and initiatives will also be taken to the UN Climate Change Conference 2022 (Egypt).
