Kensington mums were invited to this delicious gem of a restaurant where you will be blown away by their amazing modern Indian cuisine: Pataka.
~ Pataka Concept ~
Pataka – which means Firework in Hindi- is one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been to. A real explosion of flavour as they truthfully describe themselves and I can totally second this. Their concept is to bring India’s varied cuisines in a smart modern manner as they call it Indian 2.0 and well done guys because you really do this extremely well!
~ Location and Decor ~
Pataka is located in the bustling Belgravia area, very accessible as it is close to Victoria station making it easy to get there by all means of transportation.
They have a great outside seating area where you can enjoy al fresco dining. The decor is very modern and beautiful. They have super comfortable chairs in bright pink colour creating an ambience which is cheerful and happy to enjoy a delicious meal. Their cutlery is bronze and matches perfectly with their dinnerware and the candle holder they have on the table.
They have an amazing playlist that completes and enhances the whole experience. You can even download their daytime and/or evening playlist from their website. Overall they really thought about about every single detail.
~ Kensington Mums dining experience ~
As soon as we arrived we were greeted warmly by Yasmin she was the one that took care of us mainly but I can also say that all their staff is very professional and friendly. Every single one of them is very attentive and courteous. Yasmin explained everything in the menu thoroughly and gave us amazing suggestions. The Chef also came various time to inquire how we liked the food and also to explain every dish we ordered.
Nobody in my family really enjoys spicy food, and so we did say that we could try anything that was not too spicy. Yasmin recommended the best dishes of the house and also custom made them to be less spicy for us – an amazing gesture that not many restaurants cater to do. So this made our experience even more special.
We started super well off with the gorgeous presented cocktails as we their cocktail list was so tempting. They were the perfect way to awaken our taste buds to start enjoying their delicacies. I highly recommend their Masala Chai Martini and for a real sunshine drink you should go with their Pataka’s Drunken Mango: super refreshing crushed Alphonso Mangos with tequila and firecracker dust. Their mocktails are also presented so lovely and are very refreshing – we tried the watermelon one with mint – a real winner!
They have a simple but yet exquisite menu. We were delighted by the first recommendation from their Sharing Small section which was Aloo Bhaji Chaat Cones – a total must try starter, something you will not regret, these delicious spiced avocado Papadi cones stuffed with potato spice come beautifully presented in a small copper pan 4 little cones which are fun to eat and so tasty. We continued with Shammi & Pau which is minced lamb, Chana Dal with sirka onions super small crunchy lamb sliders that were an explosion of flavour and pair perfectly with the sirka onion, another one to try.
From their Grills section we tried Rechado tiger prawns with red chillies, Goan vinegar and garlic. Perfectly cooked with a nice tangy and spicy kick, blissful.
Then the Chef came over and personally brought Dahi Puri a real magical dish – so this was something that was not even on the menu and we were simply blown away, so make sure to ask for this one when you come as it is a real treat. The Chef recommended to grab these little puff balls with your own hands and have it all at once and trust me this is an exquisite combination of flavours that come together to create a delectable bite. A real little explosion in your mouth of sweetness with tangy and a small kick – simply amazing!
From their Large Pots and Plates section we couldn’t resist not having their Butter Chicken and we were very pleased it’s simply scrumptious. We also had Hyderabadi Chicken Biryani which is slow cooked gently spiced and Saffron infused – I loved this one so delicate and super tasty. We also were pampered by getting a taste of their out of this world Truffle Pecorino Kulcha naan bread with black truffle oil, shiitaki pecorino and cheddar what an amazing combination and so true to their Indian 2.0 modern version cuisine as adding truffles is something so special which I never had tasted in any Indian cuisine and so happy they are so innovative as it is superb! We also had the Original Butter Kulcha again you can never go wrong with Naan bread 🙂 We also tried, from their Sides section, the Original Daal so homemade tasting that it is also a must try to complete the typical Indian tasty meal.
As you can imagine by now we were so well satisfied but then again we couldn’t resist trying at least one dessert from their outstanding cuisine and again so glad we did, as we tried their Mango Duet which was a real unforgettable experience, presentation and the mango mousse was so light like eating a cloud it also came with a mango kulfi popsicle all inside a glass cylinder they open in front of you. It is all delicious with the right amount of sweetness a great finale to this outstanding meal.
When they say it’s a modern twist to the typical Indian cuisine this cannot be more right. They really celebrate the diversity of India via their fusion cuisine they have created or as they call it Indian 2.0.
Pataka is an extraordinary restaurant ~ something you must try. Their lovely staff is extremely accommodating and so it is the perfect place to come with the whole family, a well deserved date night or to celebrate any special occasion, a work lunch/dinner or simply come to be blown away by this delicious very special Indian cuisine.
