Dental Implants: Why You Should Replace Missing Teeth

Dental Implants: Why You Should Replace Missing Teeth

Missing teeth can create a number of problems, ranging from cosmetic issues to serious functional and health concerns. The good news is that modern dentistry provides a range of effective solutions to replace missing teeth, restore function and improve oral health.

One such solution is dental implants. In this article, we’ll discuss what dental implants are, the various reasons why you may need them, and the benefits of getting an implant.

Dental Implants: Why You Should Replace Missing Teeth

What Are Dental Implants?

Dental implants are artificial tooth roots that are surgically placed into the jawbone to replace missing teeth.

They are typically made of titanium or another biocompatible material that can fuse with the jawbone over time, creating a stable and secure foundation for a replacement tooth or bridge.

Dental implants consist of three parts: the implant fixture, abutment, and prosthetic crown. The implant fixture is the part that is implanted into the jawbone. The abutment is a connector that attaches the prosthetic crown to the implant fixture.

Finally, the prosthetic crown is the visible part of the implant that looks and functions like a natural tooth.

Dental Implants: Why You Should Replace Missing TeethWhy Replace Missing Teeth?

There are several reasons why you may need to replace missing teeth. Some of the most common reasons include:

  1. Improved Functionality: Missing teeth can make it difficult to chew and speak properly. This can lead to poor nutrition, digestive problems, and other issues.
  2. Enhanced Aesthetics: A gap in your smile can be aesthetically unappealing, negatively affecting your self-confidence and self-esteem.
  3. Preventing Shifting of Teeth: When you have missing teeth, the adjacent teeth tend to shift towards the gap, causing issues with your bite and alignment of other teeth.
  4. Oral Health Concerns: Missing teeth can cause a range of oral health problems, including gum disease and tooth decay.

Why Choose Dental Implants?

If you’re looking for a solution to replace a missing tooth, you have several options, including dentures and bridges. However, dental implants are often the preferred choice for several reasons:

  1. Longevity: Unlike dentures and bridges, dental implants are a long-term solution to replace missing teeth. With proper care and maintenance, they can last a lifetime.
  2. Convenience: Dental implants are permanently anchored in the jawbone, eliminating the need for removal and replacement like you would

Miracle temperature regulating duvet for quality Zzzzz’s during your 3rd trimester

Pregnancy and Baby Guide 2023

Research from Simba reveals 60% of expectant mums have been kept awake at night by heartburn and indigestion during pregnancy – particularly in the second and third trimesters, and 65% of prenatal parents experienced a notable rise in nocturnal leg cramps during the final phase.

“Restless leg syndrome can be linked to things like low iron and folic acid deficiencies. So go and see your GP if you are experiencing restless legs because it is just important to get that diagnosis,” advises Lisa Artis, deputy CEO at sleep tech firm Simba’s charity partner, The Sleep Charity.

“And if you find yourself tossing and turning all of the time during the night – this could be down to the hormonal changes during pregnancy that raise the body temperature.”

The Simba 3-in-1 duvet benefits from cooling Stratos® heat control technology and can be split into a lighter 3.5 tog layer

Motherhood by Katharine Pooley

Katharine Pooley

1. Please introduce yourself: Name, what you do & how many children you have.

My name is Katharine Pooley and I am the owner and founder of Katharine Pooley Ltd, an Interior and Architect practice with a staff of 50 and projects all over the world.  I have two boys aged 11 and 13.

2. How do you manage to juggle work and life balance as a mother?

I don’t think there is any such thing as balance when you’re a mum.  We are like hamsters on a wheel constantly working for either side of the fence.  It used to stress me out, but I have now learnt to live with it.  I used to think that when they grew up it would be easier but actually I find it harder.  Children these days have so much pressure on them and responsibility.

This year I have had the 11+ and the 13+ and it has been the most stressful time coaching both through the navigation path.  I was always told “baby steps and great breathing and you can get through anything”.  I go to bed late and I’m an early riser.  This is when I manage to get things done.

I did have a nanny for the boys up until the age of 5 then we decided to do it ourselves. I’m very lucky to have a patient husband and between us we manage them well. I am grateful we decided to do it ourselves but if you have the luxury help before the age of 5 is a gift.

3. What top tips would you give to any working mum?

Being organised and always one step ahead of the calendar really helps.  I have two PAs to help me – one for work and one for personal – I couldn’t do my job without them.  Try not to beat yourself up – we are all in the same boat and there will be days you will feel overwhelmed or that you are failing at both – you are not, you are simply juggling far more in this generation and we should be proud of ourselves.

4. What do you love most about London?

Do you have a favourite spot with your children?  We spent 5 years in London before we moved to the Country and we loved our time in London. We spent the weekend browsing around the National History Museum and the Science Museum.  The boys also loved being on our bikes and following the Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace. There is just so much to do in London with kids.

5. How do you define quality ‘me-time’?

It’s not a very frequent thing “me-time” but I take it when I really need space.  I walk every morning with our dogs and it gives me that perfect balance of thinking of just being with me.  I also love a good cuddle in bed with our dogs – they always seem to know when I need some love!

6. What is your favourite & least favourite thing about parenthood?

I am sure this is the same for all Mothers but when your child says something wonderful whether it be funny, ingenious or loving – it lights up your day.  I found 2-3 years old quite demanding.  They are so fast and never sit still.  I could never manage the housekeeping, ironing, cooking and work and keep one eye on them as they run around the house investigating life!  My oldest also refused to sleep – yup you guessed it, I ended up sleeping with him – biggest mistake I know but I laugh about it now.

7. Tell us something people don’t know about you.

Before I had children I loved climbing mountains – I also walk very fast!

8. Given we are all about embracing Motherhood, what advice would you give a first-time Mum?

You will hear this all the time, but please enjoy it, it does go fast and you can never turn back the clock – savour every day, every phase and remember it is a phase.

9. I’m a mum and…

10. Finally, please let us know what you love most about Kensington Mums?

Creating the Perfect Learning Space for your Child

learning space

If you could create the perfect learning space for little ones in the heart of London, what would it look like?

It would be designed to make those first steps on the learning journey packed full of wonder, excitement, challenge and variety.

Inside, there would be purpose-built spaces; some cosy, a few incitements which are specifically set out to ensure children are challenged and interesting invitations to play.

Access to the outdoors, where children are able to continue their learning while enjoying some fresh air and have the space to explore, learn, relax – or just let off steam. And the staff, of course, would have the expert knowledge, enthusiasm and – just as important – understanding of what makes younger pupils tick, knowing when to challenge them to go that little bit further and when to hold back.

Equipping your child with skills for the future

The Chelsea Nursery and Cameron Vale School provide all that and a whole lot more to its community. It’s down to a team of highly trained, caring teachers, nursery staff and homely facilities. The Chelsea Nursery, part of Cameron Vale School, is designed to be a true home away from home and takes little ones from the age of 6 months until they are 4, and ready to start Reception.

Talk to Headmistress, Alison Melrose, and what comes across is a palpable air of energy and excitement. Of course, the school has high expectations of its pupils – academic excellence, stretch and challenge is promoted with the goal of achieving success at 11+ never forgotten (even though this end of the school can seem a long way away!). However, nursery and prep education is about so much more than that.

‘Equipping our children with skills for the future is key. The Chelsea Nursery and Cameron Vale School values fit incredibly well with the World Economic Forum research as they encompass; courage, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and curiosity. Emotional intelligence, working as a group, adaptability and having a growth mindset are more important than ever,” says Alison Melrose, Headmistress.

Ensuring that even the youngest children start acquiring the tools that will help them deal with failure, rise to challenges, independence and embracing new ways of working.

Getting your child ‘school ready

“The Early Years from 0-5 are a crucial time,” says Lara Van Romburgh, Nursery Manager. “Lifelong attitudes and values are established with a focus on the equal importance of social, emotional and academic intelligence.”

The Chelsea Nursery includes a Baby Room for children from 6 -24 months and then they transition into the nursery with age-appropriate learning groups to prepare them with the skills needed for confidently transitioning to Reception.

The children have direct access to a safe and enclosed garden with a mud kitchen, sandpit and space to run around and play. The nursery also benefits from access to the school facilities with lunch in the dining room, French lessons, ballet, yoga, cookery, sport and much more.

Each week, The Chelsea Nursery and Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children from Cameron Vale attend Forest School to embed a love and curiosity of the outdoors. Children in Early Years will do everything from launching model boats to explore floating and sinking, gather sticks and leaves, roast marshmallows to making sequences out of pine cones and learn how to work collaboratively – or develop independent learning skills.

The Chelsea Nursery and Cameron Vale also have a strong sense of local community and love to be out and about in the local area taking advantage of their location, Chelsea is not just their neighbourhood but their classroom too.

From local businesses to the Army Museum, St Luke’s Gardens, Battersea Park, Chelsea Physic Garden, the Saatchi Gallery, the Chelsea Theatre and the local fire station, there is plenty to do!

The goal is to create learners with a natural curiosity for the world around them and it will all take place within a fast-paced curriculum, with specialists teaching even the youngest children.

Specialist teaching benefits even two to four-year olds, where passionate teachers really ignite children’s interest and engagement. While nobody can predict how the world will look when our nursery children are ready to join the workplace, the education the school delivers will ensure that they are ready for anything.

If you would like to book an exclusive tour today, go to the Cameron Vale website or email us at admissions@cameronvaleschool.com.

Marble Arch Marks Coronation with a Majestic Crown Installation

Marble Arch Marks Coronation with a Majestic Crown Installation

To celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III, Marble Arch London BID has installed a giant 16ft bespoke replica of the St Edward’s Crown that forms a key element in the ceremony on Saturday 6 May.

The replica crown – weighing 300kg and incorporating 36 different coloured glass stones – is on display at Marble Arch until Thursday 11 May. Visitors can take photos with the crown and scan the QR code around the installation to learn more about Marble Arch’s royal connections.

crown

The bespoke crown is located at Marble Arch, near Speakers’ Corner, a short stroll from the Hyde Park screening sites where the ceremony and procession will be shown on four large screens on Saturday 6 May.

Since John Nash’s original designs for Marble Arch were conceived in 1826, the monument has had a strong association with Coronations and the processions of new monarchs to and from Westminster Abbey over nearly 200 years. Despite being moved from its original location at Buckingham Palace to its current home in the early 1850s, Marble Arch has played a key role in the Coronation processions of the current King’s grandfather, King George VI in 1937 and his mother, Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Marble Arch Marks Coronation with a Majestic Crown Installation

The Marble Arch crown has been designed to represent the current St Edward’s Crown – made for King Charles II in 1661 – which will be placed on King Charles III’s head by the Archbishop of Canterbury towards the end of the Coronation ceremony. The giant replica is also adorned with lights which will create a stunning illuminated display during the evening.

Kay Buxton, Chief Executive, Marble Arch London BID, comments: “Marble Arch has a long and celebrated history of Royal Coronations from the monument’s early creation to Queen Elizabeth II’s ceremony in 1953. We could think of no better way to pay tribute to King Charles III’s Coronation than to install this fantastic and stunningly realistic attraction for all to enjoy as they venture to this part of London in the days before and after this very special Royal occasion.

“Alongside the exciting visual display, we hope visitors can learn more about Marble Arch’s long connection with the Royal Family as well as its wider role in some of the nation’s biggest events. We look forward to welcoming the thousands of visitors expected in London in the days around the Coronation weekend and hope they are able to enjoy the wide variety of attractions we have in this part of London.”

Two New Launches from Eaton Square

Eaton Square

As parents, we all want our children to thrive and excel academically, while also having fun and enjoying their childhood. This vital combination is precisely what Eaton Square Prep and Nursery Schools offer; and shows no signs of slowing thanks to the latest expansion of its sought-after Prep and Nursery provision.

September 2023 will see the launch of yet another Eaton Square Nursery School (named, ‘The Nest’), as well as a new STEAM Learning Centre for Eaton Square Prep School children.

Read on for further information…

Don’t miss out! Applications for The Nest (September 2023 start) and Reception at Eaton Square Prep School (September 2024 start) are already open.

New Nursery School!

The Waiting List for Eaton Square Nursery Schools fills up quickly. Due to popular demand, Eaton Square will therefore be adding ‘The Nest’ – a new Nursery School for 2-4 year olds – to its current School family.

Eaton SquareBased in Pimlico, The Nest will champion a child-focused environment and have a strong emphasis on learning through play. Like Eaton Square’s existing Treehouse, Beehive and Greenhouse Nursery Schools, The Nest promises to be an academic haven for young learners, encouraging them to explore their surroundings, experiment with different materials and interact with others in a playful and natural way.

Aside from a truly one-of-a-kind design (just as existing Eaton Square Nursery Schools feature a three-storey treehouse and beehive in which to explore, the new Nursery will feature its own ‘Nest’), Eaton Square’s approach to teaching and learning is underpinned by the latest research in early childhood development.

We spoke to Annabel Coaker, Admissions Director at Eaton Square Prep School, who says “It is well documented that play-based learning is highly effective in promoting children’s cognitive, social and emotional development. At Eaton Square, we strongly believe that children learn best when they feel happy, healthy and wholeheartedly supported. We have therefore structured the ethos, environment and entire learning approach of both our Prep and Nursery Schools to ensure this.”

In addition, children at Eaton Square Nursery Schools enjoy teaching from the very best Early Years specialists and plenty of outdoor play time. This, alongside regular encouragement to express themselves, share their thoughts and ideas, and develop positive relationships, provides a solid foundation for future academic success.

New STEAM Learning Centre

The belief that children learn best when they are having fun does not stop at Nursery.

It continues through to Reception at Eaton Square Prep School, and evidently reaps the benefits. Eaton Square has long been celebrated for academic excellence, as is best demonstrated by their repeatedly impressive 11+ results. Year 6 pupils consistently achieve offers from the UK’s leading senior schools: Westminster, St Paul’s, Dulwich, Eton, Harrow, Cheltenham Ladies College, Putney High, JAGS, Alleyns, Godolphin and Latymer, City of London – to name but a few.

To further bring their STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) offering to new heights, Eaton Square Prep School will launch an innovative STEAM Learning Centre this September. Located on the first floor of the school, this vibrant learning space will truly bring the Sciences to life for pupils aged 4-11. Interactive features will include a dynamic floor, Draw Alive zone and two-storey space rocket in which to expand their learning.

Eaton Square

Indeed, Science is a notable highlight at Eaton Square. For British Science Week 2023, the school teamed up with professional scientists from The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Francis Crick Institute, UCL and The Royal Society, enabling pupils to get stuck into experiments, chemical reactions, plant workshops, mock antigen testing and even some heart dissections.

Don’t take our word for it. The Good Schools Guide – the UK’s best source of unbiased guides and reviews of independent education options – aptly sums up Eaton Square, stating, “Children are happy here as they have the freedom to be themselves”.

To experience Eaton Square Prep and Nursery Schools for yourself, you are warmly invited to one of their upcoming Open Mornings:

When: 9am-10.30am, Thursdays 11th May and 15th June 2023
