float

Do you remember when you had swimming lessons and had those floats that you hold onto whilst kicking your legs? It made you feel great because it made you feel like you were swimming!

Your body was above the water, and you didn’t have to kick very hard. In fact, it was pretty relaxing! But, as soon as you took that float away, you were kicking hard, thrashing your arms, trying to stay above the water and not getting anywhere at all!

Flotation devices give us false confidence, and it’s so easy to believe that we have that water confidence when it’s not exactly true. I’ve always found that confidence is so challenging to build up but is so easy to lose; And it always gets me thinking, ‘why?’

These days, we get so anxious about things we see out and about and what we see online. We often compare ourselves to our Instagram idols who post with ‘such confidence’ or the person you don’t really follow, but they have 1,000 more followers than you.

We all play the comparison game, but that doesn’t help our confidence. On the contrary, it can make us feel a whole lot worse! Sometimes, we post on our own Instagram, trying our best to look confident and trying to get as many likes as we can. What I’ve found is that it doesn’t matter how many likes I get on a post; it doesn’t matter how many followers this other person has compared to me because it doesn’t matter to me. What matters is how I feel inside. Am I really full of genuine confidence? That’s the real question.

Building confidence is what we do at Swimming Nature. We don’t just teach people how to swim; we also teach confidence.

How do we do that? First, we remove all flotation devices from our lessons to prevent that false confidence and build up true confidence.

Whether it’s baby lessons where you are there in the water with your little one, children’s lessons where your child is paired up with someone at a similar age and swimming ability, or our private 1:1 adult lessons, we have something for everyone. We strongly believe that confidence should be available to everyone, so why not look at our website and find a programme for yourself or your child/baby?
