Behind the cutest and sweetest children’s wear brand, where our little ones become little angels with their angel wings onesies, we caught up with the HRH Princess Marie-Chantal of Greece, the effortlessly elegant wife of Prince Pavlos of Greece for our online motherhood exhibition. The busy Mum of 5 had a lot to share with us on how she manages it all. She founded Marie- Chantal, the successful eponymous childrenswear brand in 2001 which has been worn by the likes of Victoria Beckham and Kim Kardashian just to name a few.
How do you manage to juggle work and life balance as a mother?
This is always the biggest challenge! On a normal day I will do the school run for my youngest son Aristides and arrive at the office by 10am. I spend the day working with my team on new ideas for the blog and collections. I make sure I am home before the kids so that we do homework and eat dinner together. It is really important for me that we all sit around the table and eat together as a family. I always put my family first no matter what is going on at work.
What was your inspiration behind your brand: Marie-Chantal?
When I was pregnant with my third child, I was always going from shop to shop – from casual wear, to formal wear, from tops to bottoms. I was always running around picking up what I loved from different places. I wanted to create a brand that had everything. A pretty girls’ line from casual wear to party wear, a fun boys’ line and a beautiful baby collection.
What top tips would you give to any mum on starting her own business?
Do what you love and always do your research. With social media now everything is there for you to find out so easily.
What is your top fashion tip for a busy modern Kensington mum and their stylish little ones?
Go for style. If you buy something that looks and feels good then it should last. Style never goes out of fashion.
What is your favourite ‘hang out’ spot in London with your children?
Battersea Park – it is so beautiful and not as hectic as Hyde Park. The zoo is so much fun and my kids love all the outdoor sports they offer.
How do you define quality ‘me-time’?
I like to work out – especially spinning and barrcore – it keeps my mind focused and relaxes me. I also love to cook so being in the kitchen is something I love to do in my spare time
What does motherhood represent to you?
What do you love most about London?
The culture – there are so many art galleries and museums. We post lots of ideas for families on my blog: mariechantalblog.com about what is going on for children in London
What is your idea of the best family holiday?
Greece! Every summer we visit our family and friends. There is something special in family rituals and Greece in the summer is our annual get together.
Given we are all about embracing Motherhood, what advice would you give a first time Mum?
I admire first time parents so much! It’s all so new and exciting. I was so excited and scared at the same time. I would tell a new mum to enjoy and cherish every moment. Also keep a calm home, I believe children learn through osmosis so good energy is key.
