As Maria Montessori said “The goal of early childhood education should be to activate the child’s own natural desire to learn” and Paint Pots range of early years classes certainly aim to do this. Paint Pots was founded by Georgina Hood, an experienced Montessori teacher and mother of four children, in 1988 and a blend of creativity and music is used within the Montessori way to celebrate the individuality of every child.
For children aged 6 months – 3 years old Paint Pots offers accompanied creative, musical and STEM classes in The Boltons, Chelsea. The children enjoy Montessori inspired classes and love interacting with other children, experiencing new activities, developing independence and having fun… whilst the accompanying adults enjoy the classes too, making friends with the other participants and seeing the children blossom. Paint Pots has over 30 years’ experience in providing these well-planned and stimulating classes for young children.
What type of classes are offered?
For 6-12 month olds
For the youngest Paint Potters there are Baby Moves & Music classes which involve Treasure Baskets that are filled to the brim with items offering rich sensorial experiences for touch, smell, taste, sound, sight and for the sixth sense of bodily movement. The classes are calm with gentle aromatherapy, singing and guitar playing.
For 12-18 month olds
For babies who are becoming more mobile and inquisitive there are Baby on the Move & Music classes plus Messy Play classes. In the Baby on the Move & Music classes the children can explore and increase their sensorial experiences whilst in the Messy Play classes the children experience different textures with wet and dry messy play activities.
For 18 month – 2.5 year olds
For toddlers there is a choice of four different Paint Pots classes – Art & Music, Messy Play, Early Montessori Classes, and Music & Fun. At this age the art of learning is in the doing, not in the end results, with children encouraged to move at their own pace and develop their own independence.
For 2 – 3 year olds
As children’s concentration increases they are ready for longer classes which aim to build their confidence further. In the Art, Craft, Music & Movement classes each child’s unique creativity is encouraged with the emphasis very much on the doing rather than the end result. Whilst in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) classes, which are new for 2022, the children can explore and experiment in a fun way.
Classes take place in term time at St Mary The Boltons, Chelsea, SW10 9TB and children need to be accompanied by a responsible adult.
What do the parents say?
The feedback received from parents and the other accompanying adults is always very encouraging. Kate, mother of B aged 2 years 4 months says “B enjoys the classes so much that she often keeps singing the songs she learnt at Paint Pots throughout the day. She was thrilled by the idea of having a snack with the other children whilst sitting in a circle. I could see her confidence growing and sense of belonging increasing after each class.”
Paint Pots Montessori Nurseries
As well as classes Paint Pots operates three Montessori Nurseries – The Grove in Notting Hill, The Boltons in Chelsea and The Park in Hyde Park. The Grove is a year-round nursery which takes children aged 2-5 years old but in September will have a new classroom for children aged 12-24 months. Whilst The Boltons and The Park are term time nurseries for children aged from 2.5 – 5 years old.

Paint Pot also run fun holiday classes at The Boltons in the Easter, Summer and Christmas holidays.
