Horwood House and Spa x Silverstone Interactive Museum:  a fun fulled stay for all the family

We enjoyed a family staycation at Horwood House and Spa. We were tempted by their collaboration with the Silverstone Interactive Museum because we have some F1 fanatics! With the most beautiful summer holidays we had, we headed toBuckinghamshire countryside hotel, Horwood House, for a thrilling weekend perfect for adults and children.

Located just 25 minutes from the hotel, we arrived at the Museum to enjoy a fun-fuelled afternoon – filled with brilliant artefacts and interactive experiences – before heading back to the hotel for a delicious dinner and overnight stay.

Day out at Silverstone Interactive Museum

This is absolutely great great for all car lovers and racer fans. You and your kids get to celebrate the past, present and future of Silverstone and British motor racing, the museum offers 60 hands-on interactive exhibits, alongside an up-close look at some of the most iconic cars and bikes from the past 70 years. At the entrance, kids get to take fun pictures on motorcycles. You then get to on a tour rubbing shoulders with racing drivers and mechanics on the virtual grid, as they prepare their cars to race around you in a thrilling immersive show. The sound effect is so real! As you go through the tour, we visited the race day area and to learn what really happens behind the scenes, on and off the track, before we headed to the tech lab and discovered what makes the world’s top racing machines tick. We were even lucky enough to see a race on the track itself! What an experience that was. The museum has a cafe overlooking the race tracks, serving hot food, drinks and sandwiches great for an afternoon snack.  We then headed back to the hotel in time for dinner at Harry’s Bar and Kitchen.

Seasonal British Cuisine

Harry’s Bar and Kitchen has this beautiful high ceiling natural light with plants hanging over. When we were these, reservation was required as its was a busy period with other weddings and special occasion celebrations. Dining at Harry’s Bar & Kitchen champions British cuisine with a seasonally led menu curated by Executive Chef Will Dimartino that puts the spotlight on locally sourced, quality ingredients, including fresh vegetables from the hotel’s own kitchen garden.  Don’t miss this out! With a £30 allocation per adult included in the family package, we enjoyed delicious dishes including roast chicken breast with chorizo, beef brisket with creamy mash and BBQ harissa cauliflower. Kids eat free and can choose from sausages and mash alongside chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream. In summer we all scream for ice cream, even more during the hot weather and heatwave we had. During our stay, we also had access to the hotel’s thermal spa facilities and swimming pool, which runs family friendly splash times from 9-10am and 4-7pm daily. What’s not to love?

H Spa

On top of the family friendly splash times, Horwood House also has a spa for busy mamas to squeeze in a bit of self care. Relax, recover, and restore at the brand-new H Spa. Whether you’re looking for a dose of me-time or a chance to unwind with friends or family, the boutique spa at Horwood House offers the perfect escape from the stresses and strains of everyday life. Ultra-modern facilities include a 15-metre heated swimming pool complete with poolside tranquillity heated beds, detoxifying sauna, cleansing steam room and six beautiful deluxe treatment rooms as well as a fully equipped gym. H Spa’s menu of blissful facial and body treatments, using Caudalie® natural skin and spa products, is designed to satisfy the senses, ease aching muscles and leave you looking and feeling divine. Those looking to work out can make use of the leisure club with top spec Matrix equipment.

We tried the 30min head, neck and shoulders massage and its what every mother needs, taking away all the tension and stress away, leaving relaxed and energised. You had to reserve them in advance, and after the massage I enjoyed some quiet time in their relaxation room, before joining the family.

Beautiful Bedrooms and Suites

And then it was time for bed and much needed sleep. The hotel’s bedrooms cater for every stay and budget, ranging from cosy Classics through to gorgeous expansive Suites. Combining classic comfort with modern touches and wonderful views of the grounds, each room provides a sanctuary for relaxation and rejuvenation after an event or day of sightseeing and leisure activities. And, with a number of adjoining rooms and dog-friendly options, Horwood House has rooms perfect for families, couples, groups, and pooches to stay in style. All rooms come equipped with en-suite bathrooms, tea and coffee making facilities, ironing board and iron, safe and complimentary highspeed Wi-Fi.

We stayed with en suite family rooms, each room was very comfortable but as we visited during a heat wave, the hotel did not have air conditioning. However, each room had a complimentary fan. One room has a double bed, for the parents and the other room had 2 twin beds. We really enjoyed our staycation, discovering the hotel and its beautiful surrounding land. Make sure you visit the secret garden and fountain before heading back to London life.

In case you are considering a staycation, the package is priced at £295 per room, based on two adults and two children under 12 sharing, and includes tickets to the Silverstone Interactive Museum, accommodation for a one-night stay, £30pp dinner allocation and a hearty breakfast the following morning.
