Peppermint Hot Chocolate
I love a good hot chocolate and so do my kids, thisĀ peppermint hot chocolateĀ recipe came to be, as a result of my effort to turn the sticky candy canes my kids were given into something a little more special, and a little more heartwarming.
- In a saucepan heat the milk and cocoa, use a whisk to ensure the cocoa dissolves into the milk, as the milk heats the cocoa will dissolve more easily
- Add the candy canes, I break these into smaller pieces but donāt crush them entirely, simmer over a low heat until the candy canes are melted. This took around 8 minutes. Stir occasionally as the partially melted candy canes do stick to the bottom of the pot occasionally, they release easily with a quick stir.
- Once the candy canes have dissolved add the chocolate chips, stir until melted
- Turn off the heat and stir through the cream
- Pour into mugs to serve. I get 3 child-sized portions (160ml, two-thirds of a cup) or 2 adult portions (250ml, 1 metric cup) from this recipe so scale it up if you need to.
Fill Them Up Chocolate Milk
This healthy homemade chocolate milk has been a go-to recipe for me over the past few weeks.Ā I call it āfill them upā chocolate milk, as the oats in it really do fill them up for that bit longer than store-bought chocolate milk.
You will need:
- 2 medium bananas (200g)ā£
- ½ cup rolled oats (50g)ā£
- 1 Tbsp cocoa (unsweetened)ā£
- 2 Tbsp maple syrup
- 1-1.5 cups milk
Instructions:
Blend all ingredients together until completely smooth. I use a Nutribullet to do this, it takes around 1.5-2 minutes
A green smoothie that is not green
Berries are so strongly coloured that they can easily hide green if needed.
My combination is: Blueberries + Strawberries + Broccoli + Cucumber + Vanilla + Plain Yoghurt + Milk.
Depending on the sweetness of the berries you can add some honey or maple syrup to this smoothie if needed. Steam the broccoli if your kids are new to smoothies with veggies
A basic banana smoothie with a veggie twist
Kids love banana smoothies I think it is one of the easiest smoothies to get them into, this one has a veggie added to it as well.
The combination is : Banana + Rolled Oats + Yoghurt +Peanut Butter + Vanilla + Milk + Cauliflower. You could also add cinnamon or honey to this smoothie.
