Kensington Mums reviews

Kensington Mums had the chance to try out delicious Spanish food at the Tapas Room restaurant in Battersea, where you can dine inside or outside on their little terrace that offers you a great “al fresco” dining experience away from the bustling street side.

They have locations in Tooting Broadway Market, Deptford Market Yard, Brixton Village, Battersea Park Rd and they are soon opening a location in Peckham High Street. So they have covered quite an extensive area of London to make it convenient for you to go on a Spanish culinary tour without leaving London. The Tapas Room was launched to encourage a culture of learning more about Spanish wines ~ exactly drinking better for less ~ in an intimate and friendly atmosphere. And they did a great a job – well done The Tapas Room!

The Menu

Offering a wide range of specialty Spanish and Basque wines, Sherry, Cava, Vermouth and craft beers and a varied Tapas menu including charcuterie and cheeses. Great selections from the Nibbles section, to their Tapas Section as well as the BB Bocadillos and Meat and Cheese sections. They currently don’t have a children’s menu so please ensure you don’t go with fuzzy little eaters or simply make this a date night out!

Our Experience

We were lucky to visit this lovely gem of a restaurant on a perfectly lovely breezy night as we still were required to sit outside due to the Covid-19 restraints. So, I can guarantee you that if the weather is right the best seat in the house is surely outside.

We were greeted by the lovely staff and also the Chef came around to say “Hi!” This is always an extra special touch, which I personally always like from any restaurant.

We started off by having some lovely red wine perfectly selected by the nice staff and then we started off by following her suggestions of what to order and we are glad we did. We kicked-off from the Nibbles section with the Boquerones piquillo peppers and lemon oil, they were somewhat crunchy and cooked to perfection. Then we were blown away with the Salt Cod Croquetas, you must order this one and maybe twice – my favorite by far. Then we continued with the Pan con Tomate, now this is one of the typical tapas you can have at all Spanish restaurants but, I can say that this was one of the best ones I ever had; the tomato was deliciously tasty and their lovely sourdough bread was lovely too. Then we were delighted to have almost a try of the whole Tapas section! The King Prawns with Chilli Garlic and Paprika Salt were sublime, I do not fancy spicy food at all, but the chili in this dish simply gave a perfect slight kick that enhanced the prawns. The Truffled Wild Mushrooms with Quail Eggs served on their sourdough bread was a great fusion of the typical Spanish tapas I had previously.

Their Iberico Presa with golden beetroot and Gazpacho Aioli was divine; this is served pink and it is so tender and soft, it just melts in your mouth. This might not be the choice of Tapas for those of you that are not OK with eating medium rare – pink pork. We had the Octopus with Basque Pepper Stew and Samhire, the octopus was cooked to perfection and very fresh. To finish we had the Confit Fennel with Asturian Blue Cheese and Pickled Figs, really to die for. The whole combination of flavours in this tapa is out of this world – a must try.

By then we were so perfectly satisfied that we couldn’t try any of their Cured Meats and Cheese selection; so we surely need to come back and try these. I am sure that they would not disappoint after the super delicious experience with what we tried.
To close this lovely Spanish culinary experience, we tried their yummy churros with chocolate and cinnamon sugar. I can tell you that they must have been delicious as my boys ate them all and I couldn’t even try them.

It seems that at this location they will start, once all the restrictions are over, with Sunday brunches, where they will be pairing with the Spanish School which is on site that offers also some Flamenco dancing classes. So, for anyone looking out to have the whole Spanish experience by learning Spanish, dancing Flamenco and having delicious food – this is your Tapas Room location.

We must try their other locations as I am sure they are all amazing as this one is!

As they say in Spanish “barriga llena corazĂłn contento” which means “Full belly happy heart” and that’s how we felt!
