learning space

If you could create the perfect learning space for little ones in the heart of London, what would it look like?

It would be designed to make those first steps on the learning journey packed full of wonder, excitement, challenge and variety.

Inside, there would be purpose-built spaces; some cosy, a few incitements which are specifically set out to ensure children are challenged and interesting invitations to play.

Access to the outdoors, where children are able to continue their learning while enjoying some fresh air and have the space to explore, learn, relax – or just let off steam. And the staff, of course, would have the expert knowledge, enthusiasm and – just as important – understanding of what makes younger pupils tick, knowing when to challenge them to go that little bit further and when to hold back.

Equipping your child with skills for the future

The Chelsea Nursery and Cameron Vale School provide all that and a whole lot more to its community. It’s down to a team of highly trained, caring teachers, nursery staff and homely facilities. The Chelsea Nursery, part of Cameron Vale School, is designed to be a true home away from home and takes little ones from the age of 6 months until they are 4, and ready to start Reception.

Talk to Headmistress, Alison Melrose, and what comes across is a palpable air of energy and excitement. Of course, the school has high expectations of its pupils – academic excellence, stretch and challenge is promoted with the goal of achieving success at 11+ never forgotten (even though this end of the school can seem a long way away!). However, nursery and prep education is about so much more than that.

‘Equipping our children with skills for the future is key. The Chelsea Nursery and Cameron Vale School values fit incredibly well with the World Economic Forum research as they encompass; courage, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and curiosity. Emotional intelligence, working as a group, adaptability and having a growth mindset are more important than ever,” says Alison Melrose, Headmistress.

Ensuring that even the youngest children start acquiring the tools that will help them deal with failure, rise to challenges, independence and embracing new ways of working.

Getting your child ‘school ready

“The Early Years from 0-5 are a crucial time,” says Lara Van Romburgh, Nursery Manager. “Lifelong attitudes and values are established with a focus on the equal importance of social, emotional and academic intelligence.”

The Chelsea Nursery includes a Baby Room for children from 6 -24 months and then they transition into the nursery with age-appropriate learning groups to prepare them with the skills needed for confidently transitioning to Reception.

The children have direct access to a safe and enclosed garden with a mud kitchen, sandpit and space to run around and play. The nursery also benefits from access to the school facilities with lunch in the dining room, French lessons, ballet, yoga, cookery, sport and much more.

Each week, The Chelsea Nursery and Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children from Cameron Vale attend Forest School to embed a love and curiosity of the outdoors. Children in Early Years will do everything from launching model boats to explore floating and sinking, gather sticks and leaves, roast marshmallows to making sequences out of pine cones and learn how to work collaboratively – or develop independent learning skills.

The Chelsea Nursery and Cameron Vale also have a strong sense of local community and love to be out and about in the local area taking advantage of their location, Chelsea is not just their neighbourhood but their classroom too.

From local businesses to the Army Museum, St Luke’s Gardens, Battersea Park, Chelsea Physic Garden, the Saatchi Gallery, the Chelsea Theatre and the local fire station, there is plenty to do!

The goal is to create learners with a natural curiosity for the world around them and it will all take place within a fast-paced curriculum, with specialists teaching even the youngest children.

Specialist teaching benefits even two to four-year olds, where passionate teachers really ignite children’s interest and engagement. While nobody can predict how the world will look when our nursery children are ready to join the workplace, the education the school delivers will ensure that they are ready for anything.
