Best seafood by Urchin fish box- Review

Kensington Mums reviews

We had the opportunity to taste a variety of the products offered by Urchin Fish box.

Nick Grimshaw, founder of Urchin Fish Box, is passionate about seafood! He started his career in Billingsgate Market and also working night shifts at a fish factory. Nick understands throughly what it takes to provide sustainable fish from a global supply chain after grading tuna in the Maldives to working with native communities in the Alaskan Artic.

Nick is passionate about telling the story of the fish you can obtain from Urchin Fish Box and the people that produce it maximising freshness and minimising waste.

Nick wants to demonstrate that the Negative stigma reputation about frozen fish is not correct – as it is the freshest option!

Nick highly believes in reducing waste and their sustainable cycle guarantees the freshest frozen fish and totally recommend it. Their sustainable cycle is simple providing you all with the utmost fresh fish products unlike the regular High Street shops and supermarkets.
They harvest the fish, then process it, they freeze it and then directly deliver it to your door.

Nick started Urchin Fish Box to change the way the UK eats fish and to inspire all of us to prepare frozen fish with confidence ~ we totally can second this!

It was my first time enjoying these Wild Argentinian Red Shrimp, also called “langouste” which are naturally caught from the icy cold, clean waters just off then Argentinian coast. They have a delicate texture and a sweet taste. These shrimp need minimal cooking and are delicious just lightly grilled or sautéed. We sautéed them and had them with angel hair pasta in a light cream sauce. I agree you can compare these shrimp to lobster as they have a similar taste and texture. They are buttery, sweet and tender probably the best shrimp I ever had. Plus Argentinian red shrimp are a good healthy option as they contain a wide range of oils, acids, vitamins, and minerals, all of which are good for your health.

We enjoyed another Urchin Fish Box delicacy, King Scallops, similar to crab and lobster taste but they have a firmer texture. We were very careful not to over cook the scallops as they lose their lovely taste and delicate texture and over cooking can make them rubbery-like. We quickly seared them and seasoned them with lemon, butter and garlic, served over risotto. A true delicacy. They came with the roe pouch attached which we separately seared for two minutes on each side and then prepared “taramasalata” the Greek roe dip, delicious too.

We also had the chance to try their delicious Cod Loin fillet. It came in one large piece and so I decided to make cod fingers for my little one who gladly feasted on them with chips and we enjoyed it steamed and perfumed with a little white wine and seasoning. It was a special treat.

Our seafood and fish provided by Urchin Fish Box really was a feast as all three delicacies delivered, were amazing quality. Packaging was perfectly thought off guaranteeing the freshness of the products delivered. The shrimps, scallops and cod didn’t smell fishy at all which relates in extremely fresh produce that they delivery to your door!
