If you haven’t yet had the chance to visit expect a luxury 18 metre pool, heated to 31.5 degrees, a dance and yoga studio, healthy Café and an interactive play area for the younger members of the family, plus a book corner.

maqam centreOpened in 2017, the club was founded by local Queen’s Park business duo Jacquee and Eduardo Ferre who for over 25 years have ran the hugely successful Swimming Nature, now based all over London and Edinburgh and the South East. The company has revolutionised the way our children learn to swim with their in-water, hands on teaching methods, breaking down the learn to swim programme into bite sized chunks which are easy to master and learn from the age of three.

These are held at Maqam every weekday afternoon and all day at the weekends. Your child can be dropped off with their swimming instructor while you head over to the Café for a chat with your friends or a coffee.

The Maqam also offers a full programme of activities for all ages combining a mix of in-house signature sessions and other classes offered from established dance, music and activity brands. Lots of baby focussed groups and coffee mornings with special emphasis on supporting new mums with exercise classes and post-natal sessions.

The interior spaces are beautifully put together with oak wood walls and floors and even wooden waves on the Café ceiling. There is plenty of space to dine and lots of high chairs for toddlers.

The Café, An Other Cup has cool interiors, spot-on service and the simple aim of serving London’s best healthy food and coffee all under one very stylish roof. The menu has all-day-dining at its heart with innovative dishes such as the Ottoman Breakfast, Tillerman Cheese Grilled Sandwich, Grain Bowl, Banana Bread and coffee by The Roasting Party.

From September the Maqam is reintroducing elements they had before the COVID regulations came in such as Toddler Café Art Classes, Post Natal Fitness and Children’s Parties every Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

When we visited on a Tuesday morning the Baby Swimming lessons were taking place in the pool, NCT were hosting their coffee-morning for local Mums and Dad’s in the Café and the New Parent Company were teaching Baby Massage in the Studio with another group.

Families are able to join classes on a pay-as-you-go system or as part of a termly or annual subscription, the inspired setting is accessible to all without paying expensive membership fees just to get through the door.
