Kensington Mums reviews
What is V&Me ?
V&Me was founded by a Foodie Mumpreneur, who after coming from the corporate world began creating nutritious and healthy meals for her son. Since her baby presented some deficiencies when she began weaning him even though everything she was cooking for him was from scratch. After consulting with Nutritionists and Paediatricians, she started including all the necessary recommended nutrients in the food for her little one. After a long 18 months period of working on the whole concept of healthy meals V&Me became a reality. V&Me is a sustainable company that uses Eco-friendly containers and ensures they don’t use additional packaging and the use of carbon-neutral print shop. V&Me offers mums this healthy alternative for our children.
Kensington Mums had the pleasure of tasting her creative menu for over a week now.
The Concept
“V&Me’s mission: To help parents fulfil every child’s full potential, to bring up a new generation with the healthy start everyone deserves.”
If you are a mum with a busy schedule, always on the go, like most of us; and most important doesn’t have the time to create a fun weekly menu that includes all the nutrients that little ones need – then look no more. V&Me is the closest you can get to a home cooked delicious and healthy meal for your little ones. The menus are expertly curated and different every week. All items on the menu have been approved by paediatric dieticians. Cooked using the best seasonal ingredients that most Michelin restaurants use in London. There are no additions of salt or sugar. All is cooked from scratch by professional fine-dining chefs every morning. All meals are delivered by their own drivers ensuring and complying with the most strict hygiene standards.
Menus will be sent on a weekly basis containing all the ingredients and highlighting their “adventure” dishes that contain flavours/textures that most likely are new or never have been tasted before, the perfect way to introduce these to our little ones.
Our Experience
I was so happy to have the opportunity to try V&Me for over 2 weeks. I can honestly say that I was a little worried as my son is a very fussy eater. I, myself am always cooking at least 3 different options (yes, I spoil my son too much) as he is picky and might not want to eat and so I go ahead and offer different food until he likes what I prepared. I did voice my concern and V&Me completely knew what I was talking about and actually even said this is why we are here and we want to help you in this challenging journey of feeding little ones. This whole weaning journey can be very hard and difficult as we are discovering with them their culinary experience. During this time we might even find out about any allergies and learn their favourite and not so favourites items. So, V&Me is making this process an easier one by providing these healthy meals filled with all the nutritional counts and also the right portion needed for their little stomachs.
For the past weeks, we have received 3 meals (lunch, dinner and snack) every morning between 11-12 m; you can select your own one-hour delivery window that suits you best. They are running a full service so you could be receiving meals from Monday to Saturday.
All meals have no sugar nor salt – it is up to us the parents to decide to add if we want to. Their menus have a whole variety of different flavours and textures. I am happy to say that my son, did try most of these meal and there were items he never had before. Which is a huge accomplishment as when I cook something he is not that keen on trying. So, well done V&Me for this.
The meals come in an eco-friendly minimal packaging which is great for the environment. With the printed menu and also storage instructions, reheating suggestions and consumption notes.
On Monday we got to try “Potato Tomato gratin” which my son tried and didn’t like that much but my husband loved it 🙂 and a “Shepherd-less pie” made with lentils and beans with mash on top which was very nice. On Tuesday we were delighted by “Chicken Spinach Fusilli” which my son liked very much as he is a pasta lover and a “Seasonal Vegetable Crumble” which at first my son thought it was my mum’s delicious apple crumble recipe and then he was not that happy after trying it as instead of apples he tasted the veggies. The snack was a carrot cake that he ate, not all of it, but was happy to try.
Wednesday we had “Vegetarian Lasagna” with courgette, carrots , tomato, celery and mozzarella very tasty and my son tried this one too. We also received a cream of black bean soup, this was a no-no for my son. He is not very keen on soups neither creams. The snack was “Stewed apple with full fat Greek yoghurt” a delicious treat.
Thursday we had “Cullen Skink” a nice Haddock with onions, potato and milk. This one was not a winner with my son as he is not friends with any fish dish and so he didn’t even try it. However, a total winner for him was the “Deconstructed vegetarian meatballs” which come served on courgette spaghetti.
On Friday we were delighted to have “Lamb Rice” which was the second winner for my son. I was surprised as he doesn’t like to eat carrots and the dish comes with carrots, rice and lamb. We also had a “Courgette Bake” he ate most of the cheese on top. Plus a crossed bun, which to my surprise he ate all.
On Monday we got a delicious “Courgette Rice Moussaka” with rice and tomato, very nice and most importantly my son ate it. He also had some of the “Gnocchi with pesto he is not a fan of green foods but he did try the gnocchis that we’re not covered with pesto 🙂 and the snack was a “Seasonal root Cake” which is made with carrots and parsnip and as anything that looks like cake he likes, we tried this one as well.
Overall I have to say that I was very pleased, that even when he didn’t eat all the meals, he was ready to try all of them. At least he was exposed to new things, which is very important to ensure these little palates are.
The whole weaning and eating experience can be very time consuming and for some mums even difficult and frustrating as our little ones can be very fussy and have demanding palates and so V&Me are there to help you and assist you in this journey.
