Spring is just around the corner and London is a great place to be in this season! There’s something for everyone to enjoy in the city during March, from outdoor activities to cultural events. Here are our 10 favourites selected for you!
For the sports enthusiasts…
Sports enthusiasts will enjoy watching the Boat Race, an annual rowing race between the men’s and women’s teams from Oxford and Cambridge Universities, which takes place on the River Thames in London. This year, the Boat Race will take place on 26th March.
Or if you cannot make that date, there’s still the exhilarating Head of the River Race, which takes place on the River Thames in London, from Mortlake to Putney. And this year it will be held on 18th March and will start at 1 pm.
Show off your stripes this spring by signing up for the National Literacy Trust’s Where’s Wally? Family Fun Run Event on 26th March at 9 am at Battersea Park. Celebrating its tenth anniversary year, it is a race like no other, with runners dressed up as beloved fictional character Where’s Wally.
If you’d rather keep warm and cosy…
Why not enjoy an afternoon tea at the Kensington Hotel? Drawing inspiration from Jules Verne’s 1872 novel, the “80 Days Around The World” Afternoon Tea celebrates Phileas Fogg’s journey – the protagonist in the novel – through a menu of savoury amuse-bouche, fine sandwiches, desserts and scones which will take diners on a sensory journey from the Royal Borough of Kensington, around the world, and back again.
Or why not explore realms beyond reality at the Science Fiction Film Festival between 8th and 12th March at the Science Museum. From IMAX screenings to classic movies, sci-fi fans will want to check each and every one of these out.
For the outdoors enthusiasts…
Enjoy the season’s pops of colour and visit one of London’s many parks: Holland Park, home to one of the prettiest spring gardens in London; Kew Gardens with its beautiful pink cherry blossoms, Regent’s Park and Kensington Gardens with their vibrant tulips; and St James’ Park and Green Park with their sprightly daffodils.
If you are looking for something to do with mum this Mother’s Day…
Why not join us for a lovely Mother’s Day Brunch at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington on 11th March between 11.30 am-1.30 pm, which will include a cocktail or a soft drink, a 2-course meal and a VIP goody bag.
For those looking for some cultural experiences…
How about taking part in the Holi Colour Dance Party at Swiss Cottage Park on 12th March; a vibrant celebration of love, friendship and life, bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds to celebrate together through dancing, music and of course, the throwing of bright colours.
Or why not celebrate London’s St Patrick’s Day Festival on Sunday 12th March in Trafalgar Square – family concerts, children’s films, community choirs, dance troupes, Irish arts, culture, and food – and take part in the spectacular annual parade?
And finally, how about discovering the city sights from a whole new perspective, atop a chimney, 109 metres high? Your Lift 109 journey begins in the Power Station’s magnificent Art Deco Turbine Hall A, where through a carefully curated exhibition of original records and multimedia displays you’ll discover more about the building’s rich heritage. Continuing onwards and upwards, constellations of light guide your way as the elevator makes its ascent up one of the iconic chimneys and from 109 metres at the top, you will take in a panoramic view like no other.
