Kensington Mums reviews

Londoners love Afternoon Tea. Afternoon Tea was invented in London in the 1800s to keep fashionable ladies from getting hungry between lunch and dinner and we still indulge in this luxurious tradition today.

The Location

The Tara Tea Lounge at the Copthorne Tara Hotel London is perfectly situated directly behind High Street Kensington tube station, just off Kensington High Street. This makes it the ideal location to enjoy tea after a day of shopping in Kensington or Chelsea.

The Tea Lounge

The lounge is warm and inviting with fire places and plush armchairs. It has a traditional and relaxing feel, perfect for indulging in this quintessential English custom.

We were greeted by incredibly friendly staff who were quick to take our tea and prosecco orders. We tried the English breakfast tea, earl grey and jasmine tea as well as a decedent hot chocolate for our little one.

The food

We were served a classic offering of five different dainty finger sandwiches. The sandwiches were made with lightly flavoured breads which created a beautiful rainbow. The chicken mayonnaise with finely chopped spring onions on lemon bread and smoked salmon with cream cheese and chives on cocoa bread were particular favourites as well as the egg mayonnaise and watercress on pesto bread.

The freshly baked scones were delicious, fresh and warm. Served with strawberry preserve and clotted cream, we could not resist ordering an additional portion.

We finished with the sweet selection of mini pastries, macaroons and desserts. The Black Forest cake was absolutely divine.

Kensington Mums verdict

We loved the location, cosy atmosphere and delicious warm scones. We will certainly be back soon!
