The Snail & The Whale Play Happening Now | Review

“This is the tale of a tiny snail…”and this a lovely and new adaptation of The Snail & The Whale taking place now at the Apollo Theatre until January 5th. The Children book by the famous Julia Donaldson and Illustrated by the very talented Axel Scheffler is one of our favorite bedtime stories. In turn we were quite excited to go and attend the play and it was well worth the excitement.

Kensington Mums was were delighted to watch the show today. Three actors enact the famous children book through a daughter and her father while being accompanied with a live violin for music, singing and sounds. We found the adaptation clever and simple. The plot is creative. The father-daughter relationship is touching and real. The adaptation is meant to encourage children to imagine rather than simply relying on the usual glamorous visuals. The actors, move, sing and make sounds for the different elements/characters within the story. They are also quite interactive with the young audience. The whole ambience is happy, and you could hear children laughing.

This is a wonderful morning well spent in the heart of Piccadilly. It is ideal for visiting the Christmas events nearby after the theatre. Though our recommendation is to plan your transportation well ahead of time given how crowded this area can be during the festive season.

The show is meant to be enjoyed mainly by children 4+ years. Many families brought the younger ones along and from what we saw all ages are welcome including a 4 weeks old who was sitting right in front of us.
