Kensington Mums reviews

From its modern design to its stunning setting on the banks of the River Thames, The Runnymede is located less than 10 minutes from Heathrow Airport and Royal Windsor with easy accessibility from major motorways, and just a 40-minute drive from Central London.

The River Thames is the inspiring next door neighbour and a significant part of the hotel’s identity. Whether you choose just to watch the river flowing by on the terrace, or enjoy a picturesque walk along The Thames Path, or hire one of our fleet of private riverboats for a day trip on the Thames, the hotel’s unique riverside location has everything you will need to keep you entertained, or indulged.

The rooms

We had a great spacious double bedroom overlooking the River Thames. The views from the bedroom, were very calm and serene. The bathroom had both a bathtub and shower room with complimentary WIFI throughout the hotel and water in the bedrooms.

What to expect?

We arrived at Runnymeade Hotel on a sunny afternoon.  It is a hidden gem just off the motorway, but it’s remarkably quiet. Which we liked. There was a lot of green around as we walked around the hotel premises.

Upon check in, the receptionist was very courteous and helpful.  After turning a corner we saw the beautiful view of the Thames in front of us and instantly felt relaxed.  We got to see the tennis courts, outdoor play area for children and the outdoor pool. The hotel is great as a family stay or couple gateway. After check- in, we had a delicious buffet style lunch at the Leftbank Restaurant with had a great choice of of salad to choose from as well as some healthy warm food to eat.  The weather was great, so we sat outside on the river to soak up the sun and the views. We even got to see the royal barge pull up for some refreshments!

Shortly thereafter, we went to the spa,  the pool area was clean, family friendly and with choices of a sauna and steam room as well.  It was lovely and warm the pool area and we each had a locker to keep our valuables safe. We even got treated to a signature facial at their Spa, they use Espa and they offer various packages and breaks including, a stress free Sunday break, baby moon, couple break and event a mother and teen pamper experience.

After a very relaxing experience in the spa, we took a boat ride down the Thames, which we drove ourselves.  The ride was lovely and we got to see the sunset on the way back which was lovely. The staff came with us to give us the keys and explain the way to go around the River and what we would see, so we know how far to go and had enough time to come back.

We had dinner at Lock Bar and Kitchen. This is a stylish modern restaurant complete with its own riverside terrace. Here you’ll find hearty, homestyle cooking, with dishes prepared using the finest and freshest ingredients. Their menu changes regularly to reflect the tastiest seasonal produce available, with daily specials.

We headed to our room for an early night in.

Overall it was a great experience, a relaxing night away perfect for a weekend, staycation to relax and recharge your batteries.
