Kensington Mums spent a lovely evening at the newly renovated restaurant, Ashburn S.W.7 Bar And restaurant, at the Holiday Inn Kensington Forum hotel. Located on the ground floor, guests can choose to enjoy various drinks or cocktails in the sleek and classy area by the bar or in their little piece of outdoors heaven.
Being blessed with beautiful weather, we started the evening in the outdoors terrace nestled amongst leafy green trees and dotted with comfortable seating. Despite being close to busy Gloucester road, the terrace was peaceful and relaxing. It is the perfect escape for a little coffee break during a hectic day or even for some drinks on a romantic date. Conversation was flowing as we enjoyed some aperitifs and a variety of canapes that catered for different tastes as there were vegetarian, meat and fish amuse bouches. There were some lovely touches such as a raspberry served with the bubbles or the warm throws available to keep you warm if the London weather gets unpredictable.
The restaurant has been tastefully decorated and remains cosy whilst still being contemporary – a perfect reflection of the modern international cuisine on offer. The ‘A la Carte’ menu is varied and there are tasty dishes available for everyone. For the evening, we went for a set menu. At the table, we munched on a selection of artisan breads served with yummy herb flavoured butter as well as a healthy superfood salad made from fresh ingredients.
The starter of asparagus with Halloumi was beautifully arranged and the asparagus was nicely enhanced with a hint of chargrilled flavour. For the main course, there was a choice between two dishes. A succulent Cajun spiced salmon served over perfectly cooked new potatoes, green beans and cherry tomatoes. The other option was a beetroot gnocchi with pesto cream, rocket and parmesan which had a beautiful pink colour which left us with a warm, comfortable and satisfied feeling that one gets when eating pasta. The staff were very obliging and happy to go off the set-menu by serving a juicy steak with fries, bearnaise sauce and veggies to one of our mothers. There was an extensive selection of wines, soft drinks and juices as accompaniment to our food.
For dessert we indulged in a selection of delectable caramel cheesecake, lemon tart, homemade raspberry sorbet accompanied by a platter of fresh seasonal fruits.
The chef easily catered for our intolerances and ensured that our Kensington Mum did not feel left out by serving delicious meals for her to enjoy. The waiters were also well informed and provided relevant information about the menu to ensure that the dishes were appropriate for the dietary requirements.
Last but not least, the service was impeccable, akin to what you’d expect at a top London restaurant. The staff and waiters were welcoming and could always be seen with a smile on their face. They were happy to assist in any way and made sure that our glasses were kept full without being overbearing. They checked on us at different stages of the dinner to make sure that we were happy with our meals.
Overall we had a lovely evening amongst friends with much laughter and simple but delicious food and drinks. The portions were generous and we left with satisfied and very full tummies. The caramel cheesecake was our personal favourite as it is to die for and should definitely not be missed. Nothing we asked for was too much and we really felt at home in the warm atmosphere of Ashburn S.W.7 Bar and Restaurant.
