Bishops Park and Fulham Palace (SW6) are a great destination for a day out with family in West London. Both parents and kids will love it.
Located along the river, Bishops Park boasts both a toddler & junior’s playground that together with a skate bowl, table tennis tables, basketball goal and water play (during the summer months) offer entertainment for both babies/toddlers and older kids.
We love going there on Sunday morning when the Bishop’s Park Farmers and Fine Foods Market is held just next to the playgrounds and where, besides buying fresh and local produce, you can also enjoy nice food and drinks with a lovely variety of delicious goods including pizza, burgers, cakes.
Just across the road, there is Fulham Palace, a 8th century building which served as Bishop’s residence for 12 centuries and which has evidence of earlier occupation dating back Neolithic period (3000 BC). The long history of the Fulham Palace site is charted in the Museum and historic rooms of the Palace.
The 18th century Walled Garden is one of the most amazing gardens in the area and includes many rare trees, beautiful flowers and vegetables. While there have a look at the charming barrow, where seasonal vegetables and fruit, all organically grown in the garden, together with plants and fresh cut flowers are sold.
According to the season there are always amazing events for both adults and children, including concerts, workshops, drop-ins, garden’s walks, movies, gardening sessions for kids.
Palace Explorers, weekly parent and toddler sessions for children aged 2-4 are held every Monday and Tuesday at 9:30 in the Jessie Mylne Education Centre. The sessions are very hands on to ensure that the children (and their adults) have a wonderful time with activities varying from arts and crafts, gardening, and cooking, to dressing up, exploring the palace and grounds, games, singing and storytelling.
We really love the Apple Celebration Day, Halloween Craft and Pumpkin Parade (October), Father Christmas, the Christmas Pantomime and the Wreath Making Workshop (in November and December), and Ghost Tours.
The Drawing Room Cafe is a beautiful and cosy haven overlooking the gardens serving a delicious and seasonal selection of food and drinks with children lunch boxes and ice cream available at week ends.
